Watching Team Girls Cup and something seemed noticeable, so I checked the stats.

The success rate of shooters with super shots appears to be steadily improving. In 2021, the success % was up on 2020 and if the weekend was any guide, it will increase again in 2022.

Admittedly, it’s not a huge sample. Each team had the equivalent of around 2 1/2 regular games worth of super shot period. But it’s still enough to provide us with a guide. And the overall success rate was 61%. That’s compared to 50.3% for the whole 2020 SSN season.

On the weekend, every single team had at least 50% success with super shots. Last year’s most accurate team, Swifts, were without Sam Wallace entirely and Helen Housby only played a small part. Not surprisingly, their accuracy went down. Every other team went up!

2022 Team Girls Cup super shot stats:

    Vixens – 23/41 (56%)
    Lightning – 21/30 (70%)
    Firebirds – 21/32 (66%)
    Giants – 16/26 (62%)
    Fever – 15/18 (83%)
    Thunderbirds – 13/24 (54%)
    Swifts – 11/22 (50%)
    Magpies – 9/17 (53%)

2022 Team Girls Cup leading 2 point shooters:

    Samason – 19/30 (63%)
    Batcheldor – 12/16 (75%)
    Bueta – 12/18 (67%)
    Harten – 11/15 (73%)
    Teague-Neeld – 8/10 (80%)
    Sinclair – 8/13 (62%)
    Glasgow – 7/8 (88%)
    Dwan – 7/13 (54%)
    Horjus – 6/11 (55%)

It wasn’t all gloom and doom for defenders. On occasions, the defence worked well at preventing shooters getting a good look at two points, and they just took the one instead. But defenders did also give away quite a few penalties, thus giving shooters a free shot.
