For the first time, the World Tournament came to New Zealand. Surprisingly, the locals could only finish 3rd. In a sign of things to come just 4 years later, a NZ win over Australia on the last day would have meant 3 equal winners (Aust, NZ & Eng). Instead, the match was drawn, leaving Australia as the winners ahead of England. During the tournament, England defeated NZ, something they wouldn’t achieve again for another 32 years.
