The 2007 World Championships were originally set down to be staged in Fiji, but a military coup there in 2006 meant a late change and Auckland picked up the slack with a well run event. It was decided to restrict the number of competing teams to 16, and for the first time, qualifying events were held in world netball’s five different regions to find those teams. In what turned out to be her last game, Liz Ellis led Australia to a four goal win in a gripping final.
