Australia won their 10th world title in dramatic circumstances, as once again, they and their great rivals New Zealand went to extra time. NZ were on top 26-20 at half time. This led to some team changes for the Diamonds with Laura Geitz and Caitlin Bassett being brought on and it produced results. It was 46-46 after 4 quarters were up. Off to extra time and the play ebbed and flowed until finally those two half time changes combined, Laura Geitz with a vital rebound off a Maria Tutaia miss and the ball found its way to Caitlin Bassett at the other end to shoot the winning goal in the final seconds.
