Meanwhile, Australia still doesn’t seem to know what its best lineup is, so many changes today, some players playing out of position, and the game ends with the captain on the bench.
Aust has been penalised more AND made more errors in ALL 3 tests. Damn tough to win doing that!
Lisa Alexander cant u read a game???? Liz Watson was knackered therefore threw 2 passes away in the last quarter, so should have been subbed. Teagan Phillip stopped driving in the last quarter and should have been subbed, with Tippet put back on. Bruce should have come on in the last quarter as she was better than Klau. It was so obvious to all that were at the game, so is LA blind. We should have won the game.
P.S. Ash Brazil and Thwaites played well.
And I wonder where these errors are coming from, they are all reasonably experienced is it because they are new combinations? Is it the coaching set-up? Why are all these uncharacteristic errors so evident in the Diamonds’ games this year? Someone needs to be asking these questions in the Diamonds set-up.
Maybe the Diamonds need to blood players by resting some and using the others against some lower-ranked international teams so that they can fine-tune international combinations. I think LA also needs to see that Bassett needs to start on the bench next game, make her hungry to get on court like she did with Bruce, Thwaites is less costly at the moment. As amazing as Watson and Scherian are their turnover count is TOO HIGH. Weston and JLp both had turnovers to their name, defenders should not be making passing errors, just can’t afford it.I agree with Woodsy. Thwaites played excellently. Bruce back on for last quarter. Liz Watson was knackered. No changes made when it was obvious where the problems were. If it wasn’t for Thwaites we would have lost by more. Phillip needed to drive. She got caught standing and thus got in the road
Diamonds don’t need to win by heaps they just need to win by 1 to win the CC and they can do that by minimising unnecessary turnovers
Netballcrazy I agree but if LA fixed the glaring problems in the last quarter we would have won. They were soooo obvious.
What a great game, Ferns looked dead and gone at times in the 1st half. Ekenasio massive 2nd half, and shooting. Jane Watson came to life. Liz Watson looks shattered, Langman looked fresh as a daisy in the final Q.
Yes Woodsy we could have easily won if LA had made those last quarter changes but then again we were up by 6/7 goals and could have blown it out of the water but those silly turnovers killed us. Either way, we know what LA needs to focus on between now and the final match.
Interesting game. Great to see NZ with so much self belief at the moment. Hope Braz is ok – she looked a bit uncomfortable after those two falls.
That makes 16 Aus v NZ tests decided by a margin of 1 goal, including 4 of the last 5! Currently 9-7 to Aus.

2019 – NZIt’s easy to say Australia’s passing is poor but is it or are they lacking in options? Scherian and Watson both had misfeeds but honestly would any of us have made a different passing selection? Australia needs more options to the ball, that draws defenders and leaves someone open or in a stronger position. I think a lot of the plays that are being labelled poor passes were the result of the work ahead of the player as opposed to the player with the ball executing the pass.
Tippett has been great this series but I only want to see her with Thwaites if she commits to the graft outside and in the circle. Not just charging the post and calling for the ball under the post in the same space as Thwaites (as she does to Bassett). Take a baseline drive, a front cut and draw a defender off the GS so the feeders have two options. If Tippett adjusts and plays like that then Thwaites – Tippett should start in Perth.
I would like to see Braz – Price – Watson in Perth. With the less experienced feeder in Price in the middle though makes it even more important for the shooters to make sure they are giving the feeders multiple options.
I’m also sensing that it would be good for Australia to have less changes during g the match. Tippett is on then off then on then off same with Philip. Not sure what that does for confidence or fluidity. Not sure why Bruce was taken off at all. Sure she wasn’t wining the same ball as last game but she was going for it.
Wow, what a game! Thank you SF for making next week very interesting.
