Tully- your comments are spot on. I still think LA needs to go. The last quarter problems were obvious. LA didn’t adjust and thus we lost. Some good players out there for us. Watson until she got tired, Thwaites great game. Brazil another good performance. LA ruins confidence not builds it.
IMO the timeouts in the SSN are hurting the Diamonds.
Hear from captain Laura Langman and coach Noeline Taurua after our epic 54-53 win over Australia in game three of the Constellation Cup.https://t.co/MIA8wTe8SB

New Zealand edge Australia in one-goal Constellation Cup thriller
So far in this series…
Qtr 1: Aus 40-36 (Aus by 4)
Qtr 2: Aus 41-37 (Aus by 4)
Qtr 3: Aus 43-40 (Aus by 3)
Qtr 4: NZ 36-29 (NZ by 7)Well, THERE’S your problem!
Normally Aus are the much stronger in the final Q, Ferns usually fade. Not now with the fitness they have.
Australia had 4 sets of fresh legs on in the final quarter.
I agree with McLeod the timeouts in SSN are impacting the players ability to change momentum at international level when there are no timeouts. The level of internationals (non-Aussies) is also hurting the Diamonds with a lack of depth and experience because of this.
Liz Watson is arguably the best WA in the world. Surely we have someone else to play centre.
Thwaites was brilliant when she came on. IMHO she is clearly playing better than Bassett.
Philip is a very good SSN player but seems to lack composure when the pressure comes on at international level e.g. the last quarter.
Havingalook – Jo Weston had ONE General Play Turnover this game…how is that bad against L Watson’s 4, Sherian’s 3, Bassett’s 3 (in less than three quarters) and Philip’s 4 (in her case less than a half). What I saw was Weston’s passing being very controlled and disciplined for this game, especially when she was in the centre third.
There’s been so much on here picking out individuals to account for the loss. There was an accumulation of errors – poor passing, soft hands, a much higher number of penalties (again) -that contributed to the one goal loss. What is LA doing about the penalties? What are the players doing to stop themselves getting penalties?
Scott, internationals can’t be picked for the Diamonds so how is the number of internationals in the SSN affecting the Diamonds’ depth and experience?
Have a look at the Diamond’s development squad – quite a few have already played for the Diamonds so there’s lots of depth. There’s often bemoaning on this Forum about who missed out (eg Mannix v Klau, Simpson v JLP, Kara Koenen and Kate Moloney missing out, Kiera Austin missing out because she’s playing behind Bassett and Harten in her SSN team and pushed out to WA if she gets to play at all).
And in the team – we have two great GSs- the Captain of the Diamond who’s hasn’t had a great year because of injury and ???? – and one who’s relegated to the bench behind her. GA needs to be sorted – Tippett taking the GS’s space but still effective if we ignore that, and two others who run hot and cold. (But don’t other team’s GAs do the same – Housby can go missing and Mes didn’t shoot well in the second CC game and both Eke and Folau’s %’s were down that game.)
We have one of the best WAs in the world (who LA plays out of position while she has JLP and Braz and Paige in the Diamonds who play C in the SSN). And JLP and Braz are both WD’s. Bruce is a world class GK on her day and Klau is GK for the SSN Premiership team. Weston is a very solid GD who has a lot been in the Diamonds squad since 2015 and has 34 caps.
I’m watching the game on tv now, having seen it live. The crowd seems much louder on tv than it did at the venue!
Ill watch it in the morning, i think, but it was great live esp in that last qtr, thats when the crowd came to life i think!, i was so disappointed though it wasnt a draw, because I would have loved to have seen another quarter!!
Langman is just awesome, what more can you say
Another kiwi win means a game closer to LAs ‘resignation’!! That makes these losses tolerable
Watching the kiwi shooters is so much better than the diamonds. Long bombs rule!
What a match.
That start was insane from Diamonds. Thought NZ were in line for a thrashing.
But, what strength to come back!Folau and Eke. Just so beautiful to watch. 2 talented shooters who will shoot from anywhere.
Langman is a freak. She isn’t human. Unbelievable.
Imo Diamonds lost when Tippet came off. She was dominating Burger. That height makes a difference.
Surprised Bruce didn’t come back on for Klau also.Basset taken off in all 3 games. Maybe a sign of things to come? Thwaites showed she is the better player.
Well done NZ. So cool seeing Burger take that GD position. The Quad Series will be the chance to develop another Shooter option and bring Faka back into the mix with Watson Burger and co.
Hopefully NZ can back it up. They need this confidence going forward
