A VERY different awards this year… No Diamonds tests, so no International Player of the Year. No ANL, so no ANL player of the year. And also, there’s no Liz Ellis Diamond on this list of awards, so we assume they decided not to award that in a year without any Diamonds tests?
And if the player and team of the year is based on the Nissan Net Point results, doesn’t that mean we already know those recipients?
No, it’s based on the MVP voting. Now, there were some matches where the NNP definitely seemed to sway the MVP voting, but no, in each game, they would have awarded 3,2,1 and these votes are tallied up to find the SSN player of the year. Those votes are also used to find the best player in each position.
Thank you, that’s good to know. Something to look forward too
I wonder who the Young Player will be? I’m not sure exactly what the qualification criteria are in terms of how little they’ve played before, but for me it’s probably between Dwan, Nankivell, Horjus and Aryang. Nankivell may have played too many quarters in 2019 and Aryang may not have really gotten the court time necessary to get the points. I don’t really think it should be Horjus but she’s been so hyped it wouldn’t surprise me.
I think they changed it. They seem to change it regularly, but I had a feeling they made it under 25. that’s hardly young in my books. NS gives our young player of the year to those 21 and under.
How funny would it be if Chelsea Pitman made the SSN team (btw I don’t mean funny, as in poking fun at her…..but funny/silly that TBirds decided to drop her)
It’s supposed to be on Netball live, but I can’t see it. Anyway, here are the winners…
Congratulations to @AdelaideTBirds midcourter Maisie Nankivell who has been named the 2020 rebel Rising Star 🌟#ANA2020 pic.twitter.com/i6b3Nse1XI
