I thought Jo Weston played out of her skin and deserved MVP but Kumwenda was hard to go by… so strong in the back.
Thwaites retires on winning note as Vixens claim Super Netball flag
Vixens win classic Super Netball grand final over Fever
EnglishRose – interesting to see Kim Green point out that it was Kumwenda doing most of the wrestling. Trying to slow down the return of the ball for the next Fever centre pass. They are known for taking it quickly, leaving teams with slightly less time to set up their defensive structures.
Looking at the replay I agree with Kim Green. Kumwenda was trying to slow down the return for the centre pass.
I’ve always said they need to bring in a rule about this. Most of the time, it’s the defending team’s centre pass next. They should be allowed to take the ball without the attacking team interfering.

Kumwenda and Bruce were both being ridiculous at different times in the game. They’re both quite physical players and match up in such a way that often makes their contests very scrappy. I dont envy the umpires trying to make a call in regards to that.

Melbourne Vixens are Super Netball champions after a season marked by dedication & sacrifice
Some random thoughts albeit delayed as I was at the game yesterday.
Great coaching by McKinnis. Times the Thwaites to Philip changes very well.
Philip used her speed to open the space beautifully and force the Fever defence to adjust regularly. The introduction of the fresh legs (and very fast legs!) of Smith at the end on Charles was great. Such confidence from McKinnis in the rookie; truly hoping she gets a contract next year over Dehaney. Eddy was brilliant but was Understandably fading. Rapt for Eddy to be able to play and play so well. Watson is a machine. Very rarely took the ball without a Fever player hanging on to her or on her back and would just turn and deliver. No games, no retaliation just got on with it. I’d much rather Watson as Diamonds captain than Bruce. Thwaites played a great game tactically. Vixens had very few loopy cross balls and predominantly played short sharp possession netball which kept the Fever defenders away from the ball. Weston and Eddy worked incredibly hard in attack and were always there.Fever are very active off the ball in defence. A lot of arm holding in particular by Anstiss and Charles which was rarely called. Francis also busy off the ball but more blatant in what she does. I understand Cosh was being beaten by Eddy and struggling under a very strong 3 feet defence which was leading to misplaced feeds but the Fever midcourt changes weren’t effective. Francis was too slow to keep pace with Watson. I wonder if Eagland could have been an option at WD, although she has barely been on court all year so may have been too risky. Anstiss had no link into the shooters, really has a lot to do to be a strong attacking C option, much better at WD. ATN was phenomenal. How far she has come in 12 months. In the second half ATN had to take on such a huge feeding load and stand and deliver at the post.
Overall from both teams a high quality final with very few errors. Wasn’t really a poor performance on court.
MJ had a great game but for me Weston was probably MVP.
