Weston putting in one of her typical shut
      Down games. Peston Weston.

Have to give credit to Dehaney. She was well beaten early but has built well and is now disrupting the feed.

I said early in the season that Swifts have a problem in WD and it was exposed again tonight by a one legged Watson. There will be no mid season recruitment of Rore this year. I would play Hadley there. I don’t like Haythornthwaite at WA at the moment. Playing far too laterally. Why not try Fraser at WA?

Kumwenda has grown into this season so well. Was easily the 3rd choice Vixen shooter at the start of the year.
Now you wouldn’t take her off.

Late super shots (one courtesy of a poor penalty by Dehaney) brings the margin back to flatter the Swifts.

Kumwenda has to be MVP. Thwaites tired but have to give her enormous credit. What a game at GA by her. Really covered Watson as she built back from her ankle roll.

Seriously though, how good was Mwai Kumwenda!

Excellent performance from Kumwenda, Watson and Weston once again. Thwaites faded towards the end but an amazing effort for her to run out what I assume is her first ever 60 minute professional game at GA. A bit nervy at the end but they never really lost control.

The Swifts’ finals hopes are in danger I think. Proud and Wallace are the only players delivering consistently. Hadley, Klau and Housby are very in and out and the others haven’t left first gear. They’ve got a tough run home and they really need an extra win or two to sew up a finals position… If the T’Birds or Giants catch fire they could be in trouble.

Kumwenda is so lovely. Cox keeps asking about her own game and she keeps answering with I am so happy with my teammates they do so well.

Congratulations MJ for MVP. Well deserved.

<<Kumwenda is so lovely.>> I agree. One home game when she was out injured I saw her when she was coming down the stairs on crutches. I said hello as I walked past her and she gave me a huge hug and chatted for a while about her recovery and her love for the Vixens. I am a total stranger, it was a delight.

Swifts have the in form Fever next week. The top 4 could look a little different in a round or two.

As a Swifts fan this season always made me apprehensive. We have thrived for so long on being the young go getters who give teams a run and then fade(the 2017/18 swifts were like this years Firebirds) and provide a few upsets a season. Now we are one of the teams that other teams get themselves up for, do their homework on and looked at as the benchmark. The strategies from last year aren’t working, possession netball only works if you have punch in the attack end atm Housby and Haythornthwaite are playing very laterally when on court together. If we have a ten player squad next year id like to see it look like this
                    Wallace Housby Garbin
                    Fraser Hadley Proud Parmenter
                    Klau Turner Moore

If teams permanently stay at 12 Id also like to see Singleton developed. Giants have a lot of young defenders so maybe we could pinch McDonnel or O’Shannassy since they took Dwyer Obrien Leatherbarrow etc ;-)

I’m just hoping it’s like the Swifts vs Lightning from last year and come Finals the Swifts show up. They looked exhausted in the 4th quarter.
I love Nat Haythornthwaite but she does seem to be struggling at times this season. I’d love to see Fraser injected a little more into WA as she can be strong defensively too. Let’s hope swifts can get some momentum over the next few rounds because they certainly need it!

To think Rob Wright dropped Thwaites for Nelson (I am not saying he shouldn’t have recruited Nelson). Perhaps he could have thought to put Thwaites at GA? Now he has Ryde and Nelson whilst Vixens happily have Kumwenda and Thwaites.

Tully a very good point you make about Rob Wright and Thwaites.

I also agree with you about Kumwenda’s love for the Vixens and that she is not likely to be going anywhere.

@Jbss that is a great team. Parmenter will surely answer the Swifts WD problem and a Proud/Hadley/Parmenter midcourt would be great for Diamonds as well. Fraser was amazing when she was brought on towards the end of last year.

A fan can dream thats for sure..
Julie F inspires a lot of loyalty from her players but I think Giants could move JLP back to WD and Hay into C, recruit a WA/C like Obrien and a specialist WA.
I also think Parmenter would thrive under Briony Akles coaching style and benefit from learning to play a bit cleaner. The swifts culture would really suit her too I think given she’s a similar age to all of them.
Fraser would be the fourth miscourt option to bring on at WA or C when its not working(provided swapping Hadley and Proud hasn’t worked either) or she can come on while Hadley slides to WD if Parmenter is off.

I’d love the Swifts to get Parmenter but I doubt it will happen, her friends are at the Giants and they would probably have more money to throw at her as well. The Swifts had their chance with her and Austin but chose Somerville and O’Brien instead which have not been great decisions in hindsight.

I’d love to see the Swifts go after Allie Smith from the Vixens like they did with Eddy. I’d rather see them get a 21/U talent than some star import as I think they’d be a better cultural fit. WD/GD is also definitely the problem area for them. Emily Burgess could also be a good choice. But to be honest I don’t think that the Swifts’ roster is the real issue: Moore, Craig and Turner can perform at this level, they’re just not bringing the required consistency.

Worrying trend for Swifts… inability to win ball. Against Firebirds they had just 4 gains (only 1 intercept). Tonight, they had just 6 gains (again only 1 intercept). Those are Swifts’ 2 lowest totals of gains for the year. And they haven’t been able to force turnovers either.
