Allie Smith a Geelong WD that Simone has been working with for years. I’d be shocked if Simone let’s Allie go. Whilst Allie is a WD / GD the Vixens are training her as a WD / C. I think she will get a Vixens co tract next season.

Parmenter won’t leave Giants. Starting 7 and playing with all her mates.

Swifts should target Brandley. With a full pre season under her belt Brandley won’t be bench sitting then they can switch Brandley and Turner between GD and WD.

It’s be in Swifts best interests to target a NSW talent. Eddy was great for two years but as expected as soon as an opportunity came up to return to Vixens she was there. Back in a local and get loyalty from them. Yes I know it has worked well with all the SA players but I guess they feel no affinity to Thunderbirds.

But let’s me realistic the Swifts don’t need a massive roster overall.

A big part of their win last year was thee recruitment of Rore to play WD. Rore was in exceptional form and was always going to take a lot of replacing.

In addition Turner and Klau has career beat seasons in 2019.

Swifts will probably look to Kayla Cullen to return after all they wanted her this year.

Perhaps they didn’t expect Eddy to leave. But reading articles on her return to Vixens Eddy had decided that before the end of last season. When she got injured she felt very alone in Sydney. It was okay for Proud as she continued to travel with the team but not so for Eddy. If they are going to recruit interstate they probably need to look at support systems there.

This is a big test for Akle. After one great year people were calling for her to be the Diamonds coach. McKinnis won a premiership early in her tenure at Vixens too but has not managed it again. Winning when you are the hunted and playing with expectation is different.

I think it depends a lot on which state you come from. I think the SA girls, Garbin and the Internationals don’t mind the distance because Sydney has a lot to offer as a city compared to where they come from. Melbourne is a big city with a lot of opportunities so I don’t think Victorians who have played for the Swifts feel much of a pull to Sydney in that way. I’m sure living in Adelaide is nice but maybe not for young adults in their 20s, and there are fewer non-netball job opportunities. It may well happen down the track but I don’t get the feeling that Proud, Turner and Klau will go back to be honest.

The problem for the Swifts is that all of the pathway WDs play for the Giants… all of the pathway shooters as well. The Giants must have more generous training partner packages than the Swifts, otherwise it makes no sense why both Dwyer and Letherbarrow moved over when they’re now behind 3 of the best shooters in the world.

Swifts definitely need to work out why the best young NSW talents are aligning with Giants.

Perhaps they see a better pathway and more opportunity? In recent times both Parmenter and Austin have emerged at giants. Now Hay is starting 7 for most games and getting very good court time. McDonnell is also getting great court time this year.

I can understand Dwyer and Letherbarrow moving to Giants. Harten and Bassett are closer to the end of their careers than Housby, Wallace and Garbin. So in a year or two the more likely shooting opportunity is at Giants. O’Brien left Swifts as Fraser has jumped ahead of her. Green retired and the Giants needed to find a WA so O’Brien saw an opportunity. Of course it’s Hay that took it at this stage.

In recent times Swifts haven’t developed as many NSW talents as Giants so maybe the young players see that? Swifts have brought Fraser through and Craig. Have I missed anyone? Moore really came through under Rob Wright and made her debut there only to be beset by two (?) shoulder surgeries since.

One Giant Swifts should target is Toni Andersen. She would be perfect! I was so disappointed when I read that she had been unable to commit to the hub as I had thought it’d be her breakthrough opportunity. For me Andersen is an outstanding young WD / GD who just needs an opportunity.

Yes! Andersen would be a great pick up for Swifts in that WD/GD area, shame she couldn’t commit could have been a breakthrough onto the SSN scene for her

Or if Swifts did want to look interstate then go after Matilda Garrett. Floundering at Collingwood.

Like I said I can dream of us snatching Parmenter I don’t necessarily expect it to happen. Wouldn’t mind Garret but don’t see that she offers much that Moore doesn’t although everyone was touting her a few years ago. That said Eddy and Garbin both surprised me when they were announced as I saw both as being likely to stay in their home states. That’s why I wouldn’t rule Parmy out just yet. The same way I was surprised when a heap of Swifts TPs jumped ship, she could very well do the same.

So Thwaites says she’s not looking to come out of international retirement

Yeah I think Moore is as good as Garrett and she actually is probably more likely to be effective at WD than Garrett. A GD/WD switch player is really what’s needed, so maybe Anderson is the NSW local to provide the answers. There are some good imports in that area though, namely Ward and Kwangwa who really dominated for Zimbabwe at the NWC.

Tbh I think an import would be a mistake.. thats why NSW players are going with Giants. Moore can stay as GD GK backup but we really need a strong specialist WD.

If there was a NSW player to recruit I would agree with you, but I’m not sure if there really is. Of course it would be great to steal one of the Giants’ young players, but if that doesn’t eventuate I think an import could be better than taking an interstate player.
