Did MDD say in the pre match that Dunkley is also a shooter – is this true or just another blunder? That would be seriously impressive, I’ve been a big fan since watching her as the Vixens TP in the Team Girls cup last year and loving that she is getting more court time. Didn’t know she could also play in the circle?
I’m a bit behind on the live stream!
I’d like to see Obst put Shimmin on at GK against Aiken, they won’t lose anything in height but Shimmin brings this energy to the court that you want from a GK. Also Glasgow to GS, Potgieter’s movement is not enough and she is hesitant to shoot, and you really can’t be like that against Jenner and Hinchliffe
Van de Merwe on at WD and Nankivell moves to WA, pushing Pittman to the bench
Thunderbirds could’ve been down by 8 or more at quarter time but a super shot from Horjus makes the 1/4 Time score 17-11 for the Firebirds.
I think the NNP is a good representation of this contest at the moment:
Firebirds: 183
Thunderbirds: 35.51/4 time; Firebirds 17-11
Potgieter 8/9 (89%)
Horjus 1/1 (100%) 1/1 (100%)Aiken 15/18 (83%)
Dwan 2/2 (100%) 0/4 (0%)A late super shot from Horjus brought some respectability to the score for Tbirds. Firebirds actually lost their way a bit going for the 2 pointers.
The Tbirds defenders need to take a couple steps off the line and get out strong for their centre passes. The Firebirds defenders are very effective at being in front for first phase and have great closing speed/footwork on the first ball contest. Atm the WD and GD for Tbirds are jogging to level with the centre circle then trying to create something or drive for the ball and its clogging the attackers and confusing things hence why we’re seeing Dwan and Dunkley get so much ball. The Firebirds thrive on confusion where they can have a fly at things.
@NetballCrazy1 Mi Mi tends to have a lot of turnovers in her. Whereas Dunkley tends to be safer. Last week with Dunkley at WA, Firebirds had their lowest number of turnovers for the year, something that’s often a problem for them.
Hinchliffe and Jenner dominating Horjus and Potgieter and just the ball coming in and out of that circle, Thunderbirds should bring Glasgow on and give Potgieter some time to reset or really any of the other shooters. Thunderbirds haven’t converted a single centre pass or turnover this circle and it has been three minutes
Interesting Ian, I guess that makes sense, and I have noticed their low turnover numbers recently.
Willimas on at C! Great change up, the movement in that goal third was not working, a lot of miscommunication
Of course as soon as I say that, Dunkley throws a ball to Guscoth!
The link from Defence to Attack has instantly strengthened with Williams coming on. maybe a little early to say that but the Thunderbirds have transitioned down the court really well the last few times
I think I hate the TOs even more this season. Teams get momentum off some really hard work and good play only to have it undone by the other team simply having to call a TO rather than counter with their own gameplay
Firebirds go 25-14 halfway through the 2nd
