Oh predictable Moloney MVP. Philip opened the attack and deserved credit for that. I’ve been pretty ruthless with my comments on her form.
Interesting Watson wasn’t at the court and had stayed at the hotel. Ankle may be worse than thought.
All 3 Vixens defenders should be Diamonds. They pulled their team over the line today. Weston kept Sinclair very quiet.
Magpies haven’t had a great season but they’ll be back next year. Throw Braz and Rav in this line up with a fit Kelsey Browne and Jovic as an impact.

I think next season, with the addition of Brazill, Browne, and Rav, the Magpies can be very strong but really they need something more reliable and consistent in that goal circle. I hope Wright is kept around, yes this season hasn’t been great but I would like to see what he can do with a combination of this new young talent in addition to returning players
Question – is Rav definitely returning next year? Most workplace agreements have a 2 year maternity leave provision. Rav is reasonably young, and she appears to be so enjoying being a full-time Mum.
Phillips and Thwaites was good to watch. Made all the difference. Maloney was great.
I agree with Muffie. The wa’s were causing the problems in the attack end of the Vixens. Phillips and Maloney created movement. Maloney was getting every 2nd ball as she had to. For the Maloney detractors, how wrong u are. Lucky u arent the Australian selectors.
I watched the replay and thought Moloney did exactly as the commentators had asked, which was to step up. There were teething issues in the attack line first quarter but that’s just a testament to how fantastic Watson is. Of course any team would rely on her. After that though Moloney worked her way into the game and played really well without doing too much. It helped that Weston and Eddy were literally keeping them in the game in the first quarter and providing plenty of opportunities for Mannix in the other three. I wouodnt have minded if either of those two got MVP either but not bc I don’t think Moloney deserved it but bc there were lots of factors to the win. Their lineup in the first quarter wasn’t working in a lot of ways and once Mannix and Phillip were on they were a lot more comfortable regardless of who the GS WA pairing were.
Philip’s injection completely changed the Vixens attack. Opened space beautifully. Brought the necessary speed as well.
Moloney rarely opens space or creates movement in the attack. Usually she doesn’t have to due to Watson’s presence. In this game Philip stood up as the play maker. Moloney capitalised on that (as I already noted earlier in the thread) but didn’t create it. Obviously she doesn’t have to in this line up.
There is a reason Moloney was not selected for either the World Cup or Commonwealth Games (and unlike those from other clubs has the massive advantage of playing with Watson at SSN level).
The defence kept the Vixens in the game and Philip opened the attack beautifully. Moloney played well but she didn’t change the game like others did. She isn’t a play making C (she doesn’t create space or movement in attack) so it would be hard for her to do that. The way Moloney contributes to momentum Changes is via scrapping and tough one on one defence (which she did well).
There is a reason Moloney missed selection for the last two major events and the tests at the end of 2019. I would say her attack is probably why (compare it to say Hadley).
I thought the starting Diamonds choices of the commentators was really interesting. I’d have Hadley in Centre, not Moloney or Price.
If they have Moloney at C, then you have that combo and they don’t get any silly ideas about moving Watson to C. I don’t want Watson anywhere else but WA. She’s the best WA in the world. Leave her there. Personally think there’s 4 players who could go into 2 places in the midcourt – Hadley, Moloney, Price, Proud. That’s in the 12 player team I mean, not the starting 7.

100% Ian, I think a good midcourt would have a specialist like Simpson/Parmenter in WD and have the three attackers as Proud Hadley and Watson, have Eddy in the defence end and you get really good cover given Hadley can play there too.
Put Price back in WD, that’s where she started; ditto Moloney.
Ian, who do you have as your 4th midcourt? Assuming Watson and two of those you listed plus a WD?
Jbss – no room for Price?
Realistically give the various quarantine rules at the moment I suspect they’ll take a squad of 15 for the tests for injury cover.
