I laugh everytime there is an anti-climax due to the commentators hyping up the two point shot, and then they miss and its a turnover.
Local Qld player Bridey Condren now on at GK for Fever!
1/2 time: Giants 39-35
Bassett 24/30 (80%) 0/0 (0%)
Harten 9/9 (100%) 3/4 (75%)Fowler 32/32 (100%) 0/2 (0%)
Teague-Neeld 1/2 (50%) 1/2 (50%)Giants fought back well in that Q to take the lead by 4 at half time. Not many changes in the lineups which is I think has been good.
Calling it now – Kiera Austin for MVP this match.
Even though Fowler is a better target than Bassett, Austin has outstanding pace and very calm simple elegant feeds. So much better that she is doing the feeds rather than Harten (as happened in the first two weeks – and so many more turnovers).

Nice to see Harten called for shoving the shoulder in the player.
3/4 time: Giants 58-52
Bassett 35/41 (85%) 0/0 (0%)
Harten 13/14 (93%) 5/6 (83%)Fowler 45/45 (100%) 1/5 (20%)
Stanton 0/0 (0%) 1/1 (100%)Harten’s having a great game and the combination with Bassett is working well today. Fowler continues to dominate. Fever’s still in it.
I don’t usually comment on umpiring, but Andrea Booth is missing a lot tonight. Apart from Poolman being awarded a baseline throw in for a ball she clearly tipped out, how she hasn’t been called for intimidation or more contact is beyond me. Just because Fowler is a strong player, doesn’t mean it should go unwhistled. Takes a lot to shove Fowler over.
Giants 68-60 halfway through the last Q. Can Fever claw it back?
It’s taken a while but Giants finally seem to have worked out how to perfectly utilise Harten, Bassett and Austin!
Well done CBass on your 200th.
Giants 75-Fever 68
Bassett 47/53 (89%) 0/0 (0%)
Harten 16/18 (89%) 6/7 (86%)Fowler 57/58 (98%) 1/8 (13%)
Teague-Neeld 1/2 (50%) 1/2 (50%)
Stanton 0/1 (0%) 3/4 (75%)Assists: Austin 30
Gains: Parmenter 6MVP: Harten
Great win gets Giants on the board.
Did I imagine that, but in that game there didn’t seem to be the frenetic ‘pass it out to a shooter in the 2 point zone’ like in the games in the previous rounds. Stanton was out in the zone calling for it, but Fowler wasn’t tossing the ball back to her. Just felt like, ‘if we’re here in the 2 point zone, we’ll go for it…but not looking for it’
I noticed that too JR and I noticed it in Collingwood v SCL, only 3 super shots in the whole game. I think the teams have decided one definite goal is better than maybe 2 or maybe none. If the shooter is in the two shot section and comfortable, then they seem to shoot, but not playing to get there which I think is great. The first couple of games were terrible to watch with the extra passes.
Yes, those extra passes were ghastly. So frustrating to watch. I wasn’t going to watch the game last night because I wasn’t enjoying the last 5 minutes of each quarter. But I decided to because it was Bassett’s 200th game. I am glad they seem to have headed towards the proper game so quickly.
It will be interesting to see what happens tonight with SCL v Vixens as both teams have shown they can be good at the long bombs – Wood, Thwaites and Phillip.
Things may change slightly when the guys from Champion Data do their review of the game, but at this stage, the NS Fantasy score of Jo Harten is far and away the best of the season so far and not that far short of the record set by Gretel Tippett last year.
Catch up on the Round 3 clash between @GIANTS_Netball and @WestCoastFever.
