Dehaney really doesn’t offer much. Scratch my head every year that she gets another contract. So flat footed. Give her contract to Newton.
Bring Mannix back on or put Newton at GK.
Or put Eddy in the circle. Moloney can play WD.
3/4 time: Vixens 49-38
Kumwenda 9/9 (100%) 0/1 (0%)
Philip 14/17 (82%) 3/6 (50%)Koenen 20/22 (91%) 1/1 (100%)
Wood 7/10 (70%) 1/4 (25%)Lightning won the 3rd Q and for the first time in the game it resembled a top of the table clash. Vixens still in control though, up by 11.
NZChampion not sure if the changes by Simone were as disrespectful as they may have been in prior seasons. Remember it is a condensed season and they are playing 3 games in 7 or 8 days
Surely Koenen will make Diamonds taking Thwaites’ spot now that she is retired. Garbin is also in good form but I put Koenen ahead.
Thwaites I’m at GA for Philip. Big call. Philip’s drives have been opening the attack.
I wouldn’t say the Vixens changes were disrespectful. Head scratching yes but in a condensed season they need to load manage. I’d like to see them give Eddy a rest.
Mannix deserves Another diamonds selection.
Lightning really need to do something about their slow starts. They’ve been competitive with Vixens since half time, but the damage was already done.
Glad Vixens weren’t listening to the commentators.
Koenen is great to watch; moves well, shoots well. Exciting.
Love that Vixens have 3 on song goalers, and a great midcourt and determined and effective defence.
Don’t falter this year.
Vixens 63-Lightning 51
Kumwenda 21/23 (0/2)
Philip 19/25 (3/6)
Thwaites 17/24 (3/4)Koenen 30/34 (1/1)
Wood 11/17 (2/5)
Proscovia 7/9Assists: Watson 26
Gains: Mannix 7MVP: Moloney
Dominant Vixens all over Lightning in the 1st half and held on from there
“Garbin is also in good form but I put Koenen ahead”
There’s arguably room for both. Considering that Constellation Cup is only 4/5 matches and players can be brought in in the case of injury, it’s not as important to have 2 natural GAs. Philip has never really performed and I’m not sure if Austin should be selected when she only really plays WA nowadays. Garbin was solid at GA for the Swifts last year and Koenen has performed well there in patches.
Would be good to see Vixens rest Eddy. Noticed she had her knee taped tonight. They could run Moloney at WD with Watson and Honey. Or Weston at WD with Newton at GD. They have some options to them to give her a rest.
But with many changes made at either end it probably made sense tonight to leave the midcourt stable.
Thought this was telling… Lightning had just 6 gains for the whole match. Emily Mannix had more than that on her own.
To: Al_ex true. Also depends on how Glasgow goes. Was brilliant pre injury last year so will be interesting to see where she is at by the end of the season.
Selections will probably be determined by Wood’s form to a certain extent. If she is fit and firing then you have your specialist GA if not then I would be inclined to pick a more natural GA as back up in the 12. Who though I am not sure.
Austin is an interesting one. I am a fan but imo needs to be playing GA or GS in SSN to get a selection. Needs to change clubs for that.
