Great performance by the Lightning. I agree with other comments about Koenen, she is awesome. Of course the whole team played well. The final margin wasn’t a true indication of game, was reduced by a number of Super Shots at the end. As someone who isn’t a fan of the Super Shot I was happy to see the Lightning win relatively comfortably after taking just 5 Super Shots compared to the Swifts’ 17.
Love watching Koenan even though she was dominating my team. I think it was hard for Klau Moore and Turner to settle into a rhythm with the changes plus Klau seems to be having a hard time regaining her 2019 form.
I can see the future diamonds gaolers being any four out of Koenan Austin Garbin Glasgow Tippet and Wood.Hopefully we see a lot more of Austin and Glasgow out at GA, the GS options are starting to look solid now.
I’d really like to see Turner work on her WD game. She has the speed and close-marking ability, plus her height helps with hands over. Moore is a great ball winner for the Swifts and I think they need all three on court going forward. Craig is strong but I don’t think she can keep up with the faster players and releases a bit of pressure when her opponents are on form.
Not sure what the final score is. They’re saying 63-57 on Champion Data and the app. But the TV broadcast had 65-58. Geez, not good enough. Just imagine if it had been close!
It’s just been updated. Final score… 65-58
Lightning 65-Swifts 58
Koenen 53/59 (90%)
Wood 11/16 (69%)Wallace 32/40 (80%)
Garbin 9/14 (64%)

Assists: Langman 23
Gains: Pretorius 8MVP: Koenen
Great return to form. Koenen outstanding.
I’m a massive fan of running a starting 7 for the whole game and I think we saw the benefits of the Lightning doing just that today. In my opinion, rolling subs have given coaches an unnecessary urge to throw the bibs in the air. It’s somewhat understandable because players are playing 2 games a week but they are also recovering exceptionally well (take a look at some of the team’s Instagram to see) and they’re hardly training. It’s not a significant enough increase from their usual schedule to make 20 changes a game.
I hope the rest of the coaches take a leaf out of Kylee Byrne’s book.

I think Akle probably doesn’t know what her starting 7 is, a bit like Lisa Alexander at the Commonwealth Games. It’s quite obvious which players should be starting for Lightning, but the Swifts have a far deeper squad. Garbin or Wallace, Haythornthwaite/Hadley/Proud and Turner or Moore are all really difficult decisions.
Yeah I agree, there is some tricky decisions. But she does a lot of unecessary shuffling which just unsettles everything (Klau moving back and forth between GK/GD, Hadley playing all 3 midcourt positions in 1 game etc). Straight swaps would be far easier for the Swifts.
