Vixens awful, Tbirds good. If Simone M is supposed to be the next Diamonds coach, then she will need to have plan B or C.
Some of the Diamond players from 2019 are not playing very well at all.Well done T’Birds…gutsy win.
Stirling for MVP IMO.
Love it when the underdogs win! Good game.
An interesting thing to think about is the change in number of turnovers made by both the teams today in comparison to last round.
Vixens went from 15 last match to 26 turnovers
Thunderbirds went from 26 to 23 turnoversWhat a second half from Georgie Horjus. Had Weston and Eddy’s heads turning, so much speed. Definitely dealt a lot better with their height in the second half.
The T’Birds remind me a bit of the Swifts from last year. A lot of good players that are just gelling and playing a lot better together week on week. Hopefully they can sustain this going forward!
The Vixens tried to find a Plan B with the substitutes but the problem is that they don’t have a strategic Plan B. So hesitant and unclutch in attack and defence when it matters. Honey was strong and I’m glad she got her opportunity, but Philip/Weston/Moloney/Watson really struggle when they’re challenged.
Vixens still top of the ladder based on %. Agree that some Vixens’ players struggle when challenged.
The stats page is stuck at 3/4 time but at that point in the game Watson has 14 penalties and 5 GPTs.
Gotta love Shamera! That vertical jump she has is out of this world! She’s been dormant for the 1st few games, but she’s back. Well deserved MVP.
I agree, Sterling really getting back to her form from last season and having Guscoth in front of her really brought her alive. Her and Shimmin also make a great circle individually on each of their players but in terms of a more fluid and confident circle, it is Guscoth and Sterling together but loved seeing the rotations. would love to see more of Glasgow as well, and even Hodges brought in for Gooden.
On another note is Champion data not showing the last quarter data for everyone or just me?
T’birds have gone to 5th on the ladder, don’t think that win will up their % enough to go to 4th.
Champion data has been slow all game. And now it’s stuck at 3/4 time for me too.
Could just be an expat mind talking, but could Vixens be struggling being away from Melbourne during this terrible time?
Families are at home in the worse affected state in Australia so their minds might be elsewhere. The players looked slow and exhausted from the opening whistle.
I thought that the Victorian teams may drop off at some point, also because of the extra two weeks of full quarantine that they had. I think it’s still a bit early for that though, but after maybe Round 6 or 7 I think all of the travelling teams will start to get a bit scrappier. Except for the Vixens today, this round was pretty good, definitely tight contests.
I do wonder if knowing that Melbourne is having another 4 weeks of tough restrictions affected the Vixens.
I know if I was away from my hometown and seeing what is happening to it, would certainly get to meThunderbirds 👏🏼
What we learnt…
Confidence does wonders for a team
Thankfully Sterling/Guscoth/VDM play for different nations
Man on can’t be the only way to win ball
Horjus just showing how important all aspects of your game are 👊🏼
