No surprise with either starting 7. The strongest shooting combinations were selected. Thwaites is also in superior form to Kumwenda and is a much more creative player who links with her GA (the assist stats for all Vixens shooters support this).
Watson v Parmenter is an exciting match up, im also keen to see how Austin goes against Weston it should be a good indicator of how shes tracking for diamonds selection. Weston will need to tidy up a bit I think but she does also seem to find taller GAs a bit easier to tag.
Philip’s fumble hands on display today with two dropped balls already.
Philips is playing so badly. Surely there’s something wrong with her?
Points to Moloney over Price at the end there. Couple of seconds left and Moloney hustles to make Price waste her centre pass and Price plays along.
Interesting things so far at quarter time
No Bassett! But you can bet they will use her if they struggle. Please just don’t put Austin at WA!
Parmenter is trying an interesting tactic around circle edge, she has such long arms, so she takes off fast and early when the swing ball comes to Watson, and she is quite close to getting a deflection – she’s done this at least 3 times.
Phillip dropping the ball twice and thus committed FOUR turnovers in total (bad news there), but she definitely is a player that starts slowly, although it’s usually because of her first quarter accuracy (currently 3/5).
Lucky that Thwaites is so dominant, her timing and variety is wonderful to watch. She’s also 11/12 (missed a 2-pt).
Shooters are getting way too long, they regularly get more than 3 seconds, it’s a different umpiring standard for the rest of the court.
Moloney gets an amazing pickup, that’s one highly effective habit that wins matches for the Vixens. Note, this pickup is not recorded in the Champion Data stats.
Both teams finding it pretty easy on centre pass to go forwards, the only D player to take a single centre pass is Eddy.
Austin good with 7/7 including two supershots. She also has no turnovers so far.

Philip having one of her ANL-level games. Hopefully she can build herself into the game.
Hay and Austin continue to build and impress. Hay has been so much better as a WA than she ever was as a WD, great to see her rewarded for clearly putting in a mountain of work.
1/4 time: Vixens 15-14
Thwaites 11/11 (100%) 0/1 (0%)
Philip 2/3 (67%) 1/2 (50%)Harten 5/6 (83%) 0/1 (0%)
Austin 5/5 (100%) 2/2 (100%)Good competitive first Q. Vixens just edge it and have looked slightly the better side, but barely anything in it. Looks like a good match.
JLP looks exhausted. She is only running around in one gear in attack, or is caught standing and waiting for the ball. Giants are really missing some drive up the middle.
Oh dear, immediately another turnover from Phillip. Let’s try a different GA! Who is their fourth shooter? Is it McDonald?
Maddy Hay doing well in defence, even against someone so tall as Weston! An intercept (but she then replayed), and very very close to a second deflection.
Both wing defenders have an intercept half way through the Q and Giants lead 21-20. The main difference is the Giants players are more switched on and reacting faster, and Vixens are stifled.
