I agree that Thwaites should have been MVP.
Very emotional interview with Manu’a at the end.
I would choose CBass as the starting GS over Harten. Her height alone can sometimes be a get-out-of-jail card, when things start to get tight in the attack.
Austin needs to stay in GA, and Hay in WA.This is a lineup I’d love to see:
GS CBass
GA Austin
WA Hay
C Parmenter
WD Manu’a
GD JLP
GK Poolman
Completely left field from what they normally run, but something I’d like to see.I wouldn’t put JLP in circle defence especially not with Poolman. If Manu’a shifts out to WD then Brandley or McDonnell should be GD.
I think for Giants when Hay and JLP aren’t working they should move Hay to C and bring on COB or Parmenter to C JLP to WD
I’ve seen JLP play GD before (however that was a long time ago). I quite liked her there. With how she’s developed over the years, I think she’d be a great tagging type of GD.
I view her, very similar-ish to Holly Fowler/Kayla Cullen. They are tall (midcourt standards) and very athletic. Coaches like to push them out to C, but they are a bigger threat at WD/GD.JLP should really be playing WD, her only coach has ever been Julie F, maybe time for new ideas.
JLP is a bloody good WD and serviceable C.
Julie F has been her coach for most of her professional career. A change of coach might help take her game to another levelI always thought Giants recruiting Bassett was odd. I wonder if she will move again, or is hers a 3 year contract?
I agree Thwaites for MVP. Had to play GA longer than normal. Her connections were great in the attack end. Australia will miss her. Too late for a change in Australian coach, the horse has bolted. Come back Australia need you. Well don Caitlin Thwaites.
I often wonder if Thwaites would have stuck around for Aus if she was really given a crack at the starting bib, but she’s such a team player I’m not sure if she would have. We’ll probably never know now anyway. I wonder if McKinnis does become coach whether she could be talked back into it, I think COVID has really changed a lot of players’ perspectives.
Bassett has a three-year contract, Austin and Harten have two-year contracts. Hard to see all three remaining next year, but again it seems like players aren’t really going to move around so much because of COVID.
Austin was incredible and has surely earned the GA bib, but i do question why C-Bass wasn’t brought on for impact. I like JulieF, but her coaching decisions often look like favourtism to me. They loyalty she give Harten, Price and Manu’a I don’t believe is always justified.
