Great last quarter by Vixens. Mannix has to be MVP. Thwaites played well too (other than the air ball). One thing is for certain Moloney won’t get MVP, sometimes it feels like when Vixens win Moloney only has to step on court to get MVP.

Two weeks in a row Vixens come back from being down at half time.

Thunderbirds are the real deal. Will make top 4 and who knows where from there.

Mannix single-handedly pulled the Vixens over the line, T’Birds quite scrappy for large portions of that last quarter. Really thrilling match to watch though, great defensive pressure consistently throughout.

We talk a lot about how Fitzgerald has her favourites but I feel like McKinnis does as well. For Fitzgerald it’s Price, Harten and Manu’a and for McKinnis it’s Moloney, Weston and to a lesser extent Philip. At least she’s stopped pulling Mannix off when she’s having a great game like she did a bit last year. It’ll be interesting to see how she is as the Australian coach if she gets the opportunity.

I thought Weston had a great game. According to the stats had 4 gains but it was the work she did to cause her opponent to make errors that was more impressive. I don’t think favouritism kept her on court. Moloney yes, Moloney was definitely helped by Obst taking Nankivell off. I was surprised by Philip coming back on but credit to them it worked. Thwaites – Philip are their best shooting combination. Not sure if Kumwenda is feeling the pressure to perform when she gets on to push for more court time but she is playing to set her self up and not combining with her GA.

Wow, Thwaites 30/31 (97%) playing most of the game at GA.

Stats re supershots are different on the app to on the https://mc.championdata.com/ webpage….the latter says only 3 attempts with one successful.

PS well done Vixens; perseverance and players stood up when they were struggling early.

Have teams to a large degree just basically given up on the 2 point shot? So much so that when it comes time that they REALLY need to be taking them, they’re not! Most teams are seemingly more than happy to take the one instead of take the risk on going for two.

Ian it did look like both teams virtually ignored the super shot in this match.

I agree Ian, it definitely looks like teams are just ignoring it this round. Perhaps because it’s the first round they are replaying an opponent rather than just going in with no expectations. Since we are getting to the second round of all the matchups I wonder if that will continue throughout the rest of the season.

Yes Weston was really good today, I thought both her and Eddy were really undersold by the commentators. It was their pressure that allowed Mannix to get the intercepts, and their opponents had really average stats. But I think she’s had a few weaker games earlier this season, and whenever the defensive end is vulnerable McKinnis always brings Mannix off for Dehaney when oftentimes I think Weston is really the problem. I didn’t have a problem with Philip coming back on at GS either, I just think the fact that McKinnis only includes one GA in her game day 12 and is getting Thwaites to run out matches for them there shows that maybe she overrates Philip a bit.

I’m genuinely surprised that Sacha McDonald hasn’t been in the 12 since round 1. She can also play WA as well as GA so provides extra midcourt coverage (either Honey or Watson could cover C). Was happy to see Allie Smith in the 12 last night. IMO very similar to Kate Eddy and will hopefully make the next WYC team.

I agree re the regular Dehaney on for a Mannix change. So frustrating. Often happens when Mannix is playing well and unsurprisingly the Vixens fall further behind. Fortunately this year that change seems to be happening less.

I would say Dehaney is a McKinnis favourite as I really don’t see the value she adds to the team. Vixens have great young defenders that could fill that spot.

Mannix has actually won the coaches award twice (2018 and 2016) at the Vixens awards night. Got MVP (sharelle McMahon medal) last year. Moloney has also previously won the coaches award twice but never Philip or Weston.

Have to give credit to Thwaites for her fitness. Yes they had a long preseason but she looks the fittest she has ever been. Three quarters at GA last night and only missed two shots whilst maintains a very high shot volume, being the strike shooter and low error rate.

                              Hey, here’s something…

                              Round 4:
                              Lightning defeated Swifts by 7
                              Thunderbirds defeated Vixens by 7

                              Round 7:

Like I wrote on the thread about one of the Tuesday games re Magpies, Firebirds and Fever, the results are all over the place so far.

If that was Round 7, does it mean some teams have played each other two times without playing one of the teams at all?

These matches are the only time so far (I think). Rounds 4 & 7.
