Alice Teague-Neeld – West Coast FeverBrandley did not make herself available for selection. I’m more bummed not to see Ravallion 🙁 Not sure how she didn’t make the cut for either team…
No Rav, Browne or Simpson 🤔
Surprised to see Tayla Fraser not in the development squad, when Mundy and Mi Mi made it..
Overall a decent squad and I know you can’t please/pick everyone but how anstiss and Charles got picked over Rav, Simpson and Browne is baffling. This might be an unpopular opinion but i would have gone with Mannix over Aryang more so to even the spread of GKs and GDs and it is only her first contracted season. Also surprised McAuliffe, Fraser and Jovic weren’t in the development but yet Lewis is when she’s probably played 5 quarters max this season…
I think Rav probably removed herself from selection. I really have no idea how Moloney could be justified over her otherwise.
The only surprise omission I guess is Browne and I never understood why everyone wanted her in their 7s. I don’t think her style of play works for the Diamonds. I would have been more tempted to pick Hay actually.
Overall the squad is pretty good but I feel like it’s a bit too big. 21 members plus an invitee must be one of the biggest squads ever? Even taking out Austin and Watson it’s still very large. There are also a lot of out of form players who probably could have been dropped. Moloney, Jenner and arguably Bassett come to mind.
Fraser not being in the Development Squad is wild. Aside from the fact she’s probably the most versatile young midcourter in SSN, she’s also been performing better and more consistently than the likes of Mi Mi and Mundy. Disappointing for her but her time will come.
Browne, Rav and Simpson must’ve been unavailable.
These 2 lists seem to have almost every SSN Australian player.Be interested to see how many Aussie SSN players who get regular court time aren’t listed… can’t see many??
I don’t think Rav made herself unavailable. They mentioned Brandley did in the article so I feel like if she had made herself unavailable as well, they would’ve said so.
I don’t know how Moloney made it over Rav… that completely baffles me. As does Lewis but no Fraser, McAullife, Browne, or Simpson. Definitely feeling some Fever touch to this selection.
Really think Rav would’ve been an important addition to this team. We have Proud at C and JLP who I think will play some WD, but no Watson. Rav could’ve been an important experienced head at C and her form definitely warranted selection.
I would expect there to be a high number of players from the Team that would be on 46 points without the points penalty.
Simpson is no longer Diamond standard. Rav has been good but I’d like to await an explanation as to whether she was available before I judge, same with Browne. I’m still not enjoying the bounce to herself that Rav does before she steps into the centre circle. I’m having nightmare flashbacks from GC 2018.

I’m surprised Wallam wasn’t in the development squad, I know she hasn’t played SSN but she’s definitely a future diamond so you’d think she would be in the development squad
Glad to see Bassett in the squad. She definitely didn’t have a good season overall, but I don’t think that was entirely her fault – was very frustrating watching Magic games where she had a good hold and the ball wouldn’t go in to her. She also dominated over Burger and Watson in the Magic’s last game against the Tactix. Plus, I just don’t like the idea of the former captain being dropped without a word. She also has valuable experience as a Diamond, but also as someone playing against NZ defenders all season.
Will be very interested to see who makes the actual team selection, because I agree there are a quite a few players who could have been dropped – Moloney, Anstiss, Charles, Jenner.
Development squad – agree about the omissions of Fraser and Wallam. Not including Wallam is especially baffling – she’s the only strong dominant type goal shooter in development (ie not in the Diamonds squad), and offers a very different option to every other primarily GA shooter in the development squad. She was incredibly impressive in the UK league.
