      I definitely think Tong and Fowler would be more effective in the defensive circle against this steel shooting end, they are already down by this much may as well try it

        I’m watching on delay 5 to 10 mins behind and OMG it is painful. I tipped Magic to win tonights game :negative:

        The defence of Erena and Tem is bad. They are both ex ferns, they should be better than this. It says a lot about their defensive partners last season, Watson and Karaka.

        CBass, I don’t think she’ll stay at Magic. I wonder if she’ll consider VSNL?? Not as physical but just as competitive B-)

            Well Magic won that quarter. That’s a plus.

            Steel took the foot off the peddle in that quarter. I can’t help but think that Metcalfe doesn’t know that fitness is a major factor as to why her team gets thrashed every week.

              The steel attack end has just not given the ball away barely at all. I think without fisher on court they all really focused on treasuring possession and it’s worked wonders. Without their dominant GS and still going to score 60+ is great.
              Imagine if they played with this sort of control when fisher is back!

                @NZchamp, I think it’s more than fitness. Magic aren’t attracting the right calibre of player and you have to ask why?

                Usually we have a handful of players on the edge of Ferns selection, that hasn’t happened, why

                  I thought with Fisher out the magic could easily win this but that was just embarrassing. Next year keep Winders, Williams, Fowler and Tong and overhaul the rest. I really feel for Winders she’s such a brilliant player and captain who always gives her all and unfortunately has been apart of an under performing team for the past couple years

                  Few weeks ago I would have had Metuarau in the development squad but now I can see her in the ferns, really stepped up tonight in the absence of Fisher

                    I don’t have Metuaru in the ferns, remember this is club Netball. Burger has easily outplayed her last 2 times

                      I think Metuarau is knocking on the door. She had to step up this match and she did. The question is can she play like that every game.

                      @samj,                       not sure i’d keep Fowler, nothing wrong with her as a player, I just didn’t see her name in the team squad for this season. Thought we’d see more of GE.

                        Good point jinxi.

                        I had Magic as contenders at the beginning of the season. Providing everyone was fit and healthy. Instead they absolutely bombed out. Then the coach chopping and changing the lineups similar to Mystics last year. It’s just been an absolute mess.

                        I’m hoping Kara, Bassett, Miss F and Mikaere retire, sorry to say.

                          Fowler did her ACL last year, she wasn’t given a contract. But she recovered quicker than imagined, so has been playing full games as a training partner

                            I thought Magic would go close to winning this game with no Fisher.
                            Also interesting that Namana didn’t get a contract, yet played last year after the injuries and started over Pelasio (contracted player) tonight.

                                @jinxibo I disagree about attracting players. Even in their current team, they have some big name players. Could argue they have the most big names, compared to others.
                                I do feel @NZChampion is right, they have a very unfit team, whether that be conditioning or injuries.
                                If they had all players running fit, I think they’d be able to handle there injured players better. Eg Semple’s lack of fitness (don’t get me wrong, she’s a beautiful player), would not help an (niggly)injured CBass and a young inexperienced WA.

                                I think Metcalfe, unfortunately, has to take a lot of the blame for this. Loved her as a player, doesn’t cut it as a coach.

                                For the next game, I would like to see her run her fittest starting 7 –
                                CBass
                                Williams
                                Kolise (Kara if she’s available)
                                Winders
                                ??
                                Fowler
                                Tong

                                I don’t think they have lost by big margins when Kara has played. So I do feel she’s very important to this side.

                                  I like that line up TB. I’d have Edgecombe at WD, she was doing well earlier in the season but has been on the bench since Fowler came back which is a shame.
