Wonder if Magic could try a midcourt of Kara, Kolose, Winders

Winders was amazing at WD in the con cup so would be great to see her there again.

@moooz I think that would be a good midcourt, definitely worth a try!

@Mcleod, thank you for the update re Fowler

@TB, I hear what your saying and @NZchamp, too but fitness wise the only one that i don’t understand is Tem. I recall reading somewhere that DNT sent her home from SF camp to work on her fitness. I don’t know if it’s true but if it is what’s going on??

My point is Magic lost Jury, Mather, Faulkner, Souness, Sinclair and Malesala, you have to ask why? were there better developmental opportunities elsewhere, something in the team culture or setup that they didn’t like  ? even Courtney Eliot(?) is playing in the sapphire series.

I’m going to check but didn’t Magic lose to Steel last year when after they lost Jen and Heffernan ?

Hard to believe Magic put 64 goals on the Mystics in round 1, and won their only game so far.

Malesala left NZ to go to Australia late 2018/early 2019, I’m not sure that the Magic didn’t want her. Maybe they did? She is very driven but like a lot of players having to sit on the bench game after game isn’t exactly inspiring for them and I don’t recall her starting for them.

She gained a contract with VNL and also played for Swifts. She also played 7’s.

It’s just been announced on the ANZ Premiership website that Metcalfe is stepping down at end of season. She has opted not to renew her contract.

I do feel for Metcalfe. But as I said previously, loved her as a player……unfortunately doesn’t cut it as a coach.

What I’ve found interesting, is how quickly she got a head coach role. Yet Julie Seymour, who seems to have been in the system for a while, has not yet gotten the same opportunity.

@Jinxibo You have to remember that all teams play under a salary cap so if you aren’t getting paid what you think you are worth then it makes sense to move to another franchise. Grace Namana is also from the Waikato region so I’d be putting the feelers out if I were the Magic.

Bassett has been a waste of money and she’s obviously playing injured but it’s not doing anyone any favours. Semple has no desire to make it any higher otherwise she would have lost more weight or even come into the season in shape but she hasn’t. I wouldn’t be offering her a contract next year. Last season and even at the beginning of the season Namana was a bigger girl who could move well for her size, she has lost a lot of weight over the course of the season and it really showed last night. I thought she was outstanding.

People bagging Temalisi saying she should retire, seriously? She is out of shape and strapped up like a mummy every game but if you look back at Sulu 4 years ago she was in the exact same spot, injured, overweight and close to quitting netball and look at her now. Tem just needs time to let the body heal and then train hard to get back to the shape she was when she first played for the Tactix.

I did think the Magic would have taken that game out though with Fisher being out.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if Thunderbirds recruited Bassett, they have a history of recruiting injured and players who are close to retirement (especially from other countries). But also I haven’t been watching ANZ this year so no clue how Bassett is fairing, just going off the forum comments from the last few months. I do hope she can regain her form though.

CBass is clearly injured, and arrived injured. She can’t even jump, and her movement is very slow.
They are not helped by having to chop and change the WA, Kara sometimes plays, then doesn’t then does.

Having a set WA is so important for combinations. I do wonder what the specific injury is and how it is being managed because it seems she has been playing on it for a while. Fingers crossed it’s minor in the long-term.

TB – The Mystics will likely have a surplus defender next year –

                                Fitzpatrick – GK, GD
                                Burley – GD, GK
Sokolich Beatson – GK, GD, WD (injured)
                                Karaka – GK, GD (maternity)
                                Ioane – WD

They used Grace Kukutai (WD) for two games, she is back in NZ after playing rugby in Japan. She’s playing here too. Possibility?

@Maryann oh WOW that’s like a defence heaven, for any coach 😍

I feel Mystics have got a great combination with Sulu/Burley. I would love to see Karaka either go to Magic or Stars (if Harrison retires). And SB maybe to the Pulse?

What I’d hate to see if Mystics took all 4 defenders, as two quality defenders will have to bench. And then I don’t want to see the coach make unnecessary changes, just to give players court time.

If Miss F can get her fitness back to what it was when she was the Tactix, her and Fowler could form a very strong combination. Tong would be my other defender.

If Harrison doesn’t return, Karaka and Temu could form another strong combination too. SB combining with Jury, would be another great one to watch.

The depth would be great for Ferns too –
                                  Magic – Miss F (fit)/Fowler
                                  Mystics – Sulu/Burley
                                  Stars – Karaka (fit)/Temu
                                  Tactix – Watson/Burger
                                  Pulse – Jury/SB
                                  Steel – Fifita/THSR
Add in, some of these teams have great bench players too.
