Great game!!! Well down Steel! So clinical and like Metuarau said, a strange mix of girls lol. But it works!
I would say unlucky to Stars, but Kiri hesitated with that change that needed to happen in the 1st quarter.
I hope Maia can find herself in this off season. Please never make another shooter in NZ a captain.
So sad to see Monica crying like that but it wasn’t her fault. Well done to the Steel girls on your perseverance.
30/38 (79%) for Hume. Great volume and she carried her team during that second half.
Metuarau chipped in with 11/31 (81%) and a mountain of work out the front
If you were picking off pure performance this weekend then they would be your GAs shortly.
The more I think about it, a break for Wilson might mean 1x Dunn gets a spot as the second GS..
Full time: Steel 46-45
Hume 30/38 (79%)
Wilson 11/21 (52%)
Falkner 4/5 (80%)Fisher 33/34 (97%)
Metuarau 13/17 (76%)Assists: Crampton 22, Saunders 17
Gains: Fifita 8, Harrison 7Penalties: Steel 77-50
Turnovers: Steel 24-21MVP: Tiana Metuarau (Steel)
I don’t know what this sentiment is about shooters not being captains when you have Meels and Bassett who were great captains for their clubs and country?
I would still pick Wilson for the Ferns. 14 rounds in and she’s played great for 12 of those.
Shooting is largely a mental game once you have your form perfected. Wilsons shot just looks out of sync.
Three games and all of them were amazing this weekend. Definitely my favourite round of the competition.Metuarau would have to be close to that Ferns GA position.
Wilson’s collapse over the last few weeks has been quite shocking, I really didn’t see it coming. Falkner really needed to be brought on much earlier. A really good effort from Hume though, I think she’s earned her Ferns spot.
Tactix, Mystics and Steel! It will be interesting to see how Mystics handle the pressure of being favourites. It’s good to see all teams coming into their best form at the end of the season.
20 more attempts. Kiri Wills lost that nobody else, who leave the GS out there to shot 1 goal in the 3rd Q.
Middies were not even passing to Maia. Poor coaching. Hume fantastic, Metuarau ok, but her pissy little passes annoy me so much. One of the Stars cleanest games penalty wise interestingly
Wow superb game. Metuarau stood up big time. Fisher was getting hammered by Harrison. Not getting the calls. Metuarau’s combination with fisher was fabulous.
Steel are my faves since Pulse didn’t do well this season. Hope the Steel take out the championship. Can’t believe that all these players that were benchwarming for the pulse are stepping up big time. Metuarau, saviinea, Temu. The experience against more physical defences will stand Fisher in good stead internationally.- This reply was modified 1 year, 8 months ago by Kwkiwi.
So who is everyone picking for the starting GA bib for the Ferns after this round?
Hope Dunn gets given a chance at the Ferns. She is consistently good. She hasn’t let any defences dominate her this season and has a natural stroke. Have not seen her shooting get out of rhythm in any game this year. With a better GA out in front of her the Pulse would have been in the finals running.
TP 1st choice. Because she’s been around forever and she hasn’t had the chance to really shine in the black dress. Work load is good, in circle feeds seamless and is now experienced enough. I would like to see better shooting from her. Which I’m sure Noeline will address. The way she got them into form at the Nations Cup was a testament to that.
I would pick Hume and either TP or Metuarau depending on who performs better in finals. I would take Dunn and Wilson as the shooters. Nweke is ready for international but I don’t think she’ll make the fitness cut. Maybe DNT will change the fitness rules, she definitely seems to prefer Nweke to Dunn.
It will come down to fitness and I think Maia, Hume, TP, Mes and Falkner will have that in buckets. So possibly could see a team without Dunn, Nweke and Metuarau.
