Well they did the Haka is round 6. Had won their 1st 5. They were actually going to do it in the previous round.

Probably a case of correlation vs causation with the haka

Re Falkners tears: it may have been tears of absolute frustration after two pretty hard injury set backs. She may have been mentally relying on the finals as extra game time to prove herself for the Ferns as well.

The Pulses coaching situation is an interesting one! I’ve found it hard to warm to Parata. Even in passages of outstanding play from the Pulse she would remain stone faced.

Can anyone fill me in on what happened with the Pulse and Parata? I thought something looked off in the team huddles, but I don’t know anything else?

I wonder if the reason for Gail leaving is more obvious than we think??

After the Steel game Metuarau said “next week we play mum’s team” she laughed and then said the Pulse. I wonder if Gail wants to put her mark on the team and hasn’t been allowed to do so B-)

I like Gail as a coach. She did wonders for Scotland and I think she can do the same for Magic. Look at the Sirens in the VSNL this season, many of those players would have come through a pathway Gail put in place, I believe.

@ maryann, I take your point about Jane Seymour, lots of ANZP experience but Gail has made a difference at international level.

Tania Hoffman is back in NZ what’s she like as a coach?

Jinxibo – I also read in one of the articles that she had issues with the fact Pulse already had an ‘established programme’ so had to fit into that – and she wanted to build one from the ground up – which is exactly what Magic need – not more of the same – which is what would happen if MJ Araroa took the reigns – it started with Marg Forsyth – that wasn’t great, Amigene was her assistant , and was promoted to coach, Araroa is her assistant so I fear it would just be history repeating if she stepped in as I’ve seen some suggestions of – it’s not like Parata could do much worse that what has been – I’d be interested to see if she could turn round their fortunes

@kerryn, thank you for sharing, that’s very interesting. Have to admit I agree with you about the slide of Magic.

@WeWood as far as I’ve heard Yvette isn’t going to be coaching at ANZ level anytime soon.

I know the Pulse are currently in talks with someone who is a household name in the netball circles and if she does take the role then players that were looking at moving will stay. I haven’t heard anything around prospective coaches for the Magic.

The problem is both the Pulse and Magic need to sort it this week preferably as after the finals teams will be able to approach all players for contracting but a lot of the star players won’t commit to a team when they don’t know who the coach is.

It’s interesting hearing that Parata wanted to build from the ground up. From what I heard from a few sources was that it all fell apart a long time ago because of that. Her earlier practises with the team consisted of high school level ball drills and it got to the point that a few of the senior silver fern members of the team had to take over practices because it was turning into a debacle. She also wanted to spend more time with the shooters (Meels and Dunn) because she thought she could improve their accuracy because that is what she did with the Scottish shooters.

I think she would be a good fit for the Magic as they have nothing to lose. I think she didn’t do too bad at the Pulse considering the turn over of players they had this season and hopefully she gets a shot elsewhere.

Household name in netball? NZer or abroad?

Good luck to both franchises in finding the right person.

Could it be Irene Van Dyk?

IVD hasn’t even assisted at ANZP level. And I get specialist coach vibes from her more so than head coach?

Someone who has been in/around ANZP previously is Sandy Edge. But the more likely option being Wai? Surely.

When household name was mentioned, my thoughts went to Wai.

I’m guessing the anz players won’t have a long off season, with com Games in late July next year.
They will prob start in late Feb finish early June, that will give Noels time to prepare the Ferns.

Magic didn’t advertise for very long about a coach. They prob got someone sorted already.

I wondered if they’d be interested in Lisa Alexander at the Pulse? She and Wai always had a great relationship when coaching the Ferns and Diamonds respectively.

                              Pure speculation on my behalf.

They need a coach that knows how to win! YMD is the only one that comes to mind (but unfortunately is not an option).

Wow wonder why Parata wanted to try and improve Dunn and Ekenasio’s accuracy. They are two of the most accurate shooters in the league. I thought a couple of the main problems for the Pulse this season were the in game substitutions and playing players out of position which are both the coach’s calls.

What successes did Parata have with the Scottish team?

Wonder if Metuarau will return to the Pulse next year…
