Sadly, this has a very inevitable look about it. Mystics will run away with this because they just can’t stop Nweke.
And Bassett’s knee is definitely hampering her. At 9-4, Magic had a chance to go to 10-4, but Bassett didn’t feel comfortable turning and shooting, so passed back out and they ended up losing possession.
If Semple got smaller and fitter, she would make the Ferns.
So interesting that Magic have not used Williams for the past two games. I wonder if there’s a bit of in-house raru’s happening?
When Magic run with a fit lineup (Faka and Semple are NOT fit), they play so much better. And IMO have a much better chance of winning.
1/4 time: Magic 18-16
Nweke 14/14 for Mystics. Magic sharing it around with 10 goals from Semple, 8 from Bassett, Winders and Toeava feeding well.
And they don’t have Williams, so shooting options are thin.
1/2 time: Magic 36-34
A great goal right on the buzzer from Semple sees Magic keep the 2 goal lead.
For Magic, Semple came into the game more as a feeder in that Q. For Mystics, Toeava has an incredible 19 assists to half time. Mes unfortunately has 5 turnovers.
Not sure how Magic are up by 2, they play very much like individuals and not as a team.
Toeava’s feeds into Nweke are beautiful to watch.
Williams now coming on.
3/4 time: 52-52
Another buzzer beater, this time from Khiarna Williams to lock it up going into the last Q.
Magic holding on at the moment, but a bit reminiscent of 3 weeks ago when Mystics overran them in the 4th Q. Toeava/Nweke unstoppable so far. Looking like 140+ goals!
Full time: Mystics 68-63
Close all the way, but Magic just had no answer to the Toeava/Nweke combo and it hurt them in the end. another win for Mystics and another case of so near yet so far for Magic.
Unfortunately for Williams, she threw a few balls away and then got a little injury. Felt sorry for her, as she did seem a bit rusty.
I thought Holly Fowler could have played more tighter on Toeava, instead of giving her so much space. You can see she thrives on that space.
Toeava reminds me of Donna Wilkins – play a zone on them, and they run a muck cause they have so much space. Place a tight man-on-man on them, and they start to tire and force things.
Full time: Mystics 68-63 (MVP: Elisapeta Toeava)
