for me MVP in G2 was Guscoth and G3 SDL,
BTW there was a rumour in the SSN signing thread that SDL’s got a contract…@Jinxibo – Oceane Maihi, Kate Burley & Georgia Tong are the three development squad (what I refer to as NZA) circle defenders, along with Paris Lokotui who used to be a circle defender but has mostly/only played WD for Pulse.
I don’t think Temu made any squad but happy to stand corrected if someone else does know.
Also I like Tong, wish she played GD or WD as I feel she is a little too slight for international level.

@Maryann MSB has guts and mongrel in the same ilk as Winders, Rore, Burger and Watson. If she’s fully fit she’s a contender for sure. If for whatever reason Rore isn’t available then I think MSB would be vying for the WD/GD slide role against a (hopefully) fit and rejuvenated Johnson. If Johnson turns back the clock to her 2015 NWC form in the ANZP next year, she’ll be on that plane to Birmingham mark my words.
Re Te Paea I’d actually like to see her play GS at ANZP level. Ball in hand and posting up. She’s a beautiful feeder but really regresses for the Tactix and let’s Bird do the grunt work. Her style of play somewhat struggles when playing up for the Ferns and needing to be more involved with a body on her constantly.
WOW! so impressed with the Roses, that defensive effort to come back was amazing. Loved watching SDL and Cardwell, and they’ve still got Haythornthwaite to come back into the side (would love to see that line up)!
I don’t know that Thirlby outcoached DNT – I thought her decision to take SDL off in the second quarter instead of Fisher did not work at all, but the second half line up was brilliant. DNT’s selection decisions were definitely questionable though, and I think we’re starting to see the consequences of having such a defence-light squad selection.
Credit to Malcolm, she definitely improved from the first game – a little hesitant on the feeds sometimes, but way less forcing the feed and fewer turnovers
Also loved watching Mentor this series – she was a bit quiet this SSN season, but so good in these games. Also super impressed with her combinations with Williams and Guscoth, especially today with how well her and WIlliams covered TPSR and Wilson. SDL would have been my MVP, she just did so much work down that attacking end and was relentless.
Jess Thirlby will definitely have a headache selecting shooters in the future – who would you pick? I think SDL for sure, especially because she could give WA cover and she just played so well in this series, and Housby, but the other spots ??? Harten has the experience, but she also didn’t have the best season – Fisher and Cardwell both have better shooting percentages and fewer turnovers (when looking at season stats)

@Maryann, you are correct Temu wasn’t selected for any squad. But my point still stands I don’t think Sulu will be fit/risked for the Cadbury series, Jane won’t be fit. Looks like Tong may remind with the SF squad, Paris Mason is in the U21 squad. Not counting Lokotui (as you say she’s usually WD), the main SF squad will have 3 circle defenders and NZA 2 is that sufficient against the men?
Well Karaka and Saunders made the world cup team, and they came from no squads.
And what now for England, they haven’t been given the OK to fly to Aussie yet.
Haven’t had Covid in Christchurch for 17 months, it’s like being closed to the world for doing nothing wrong.I don’t think it’s fair to imply that areas of the country ‘did something wrong’ by having covid cases. The South Island has just been incredibly lucky
Wow no covid for 17 months, there were 30,000 plus new cases reported in England on Thursday alone. Hurry home Roses.
I wonder if Fisher will stay in NZ, seeing as it’s next to impossible to get a MIQ spot.
Her one might be booked, but the ANZ teams go into pre season in November.Replying to Jayceenz – English defence got away with stuff our girls got pulled up for. Go figure! Happens everytime. Serena not my choice for MVP either.
And what about George Fisher getting pulled up for less than Maia Wilson who either held onto or pushed off Mentor and only got 1 call I think? Again that happens every time too so balanced up the apparent defense bias

How about this…
Over the course of the 3 tests, NZ won the first half by a combined 18 goals (76-58).
But England won the second half by a combined 26 goals (88-62)!!!
