Wonderful! Playing the men’s team in a test ‘simulation’ has been an integral part of the SF success.
Also great to see the familiar men players in action again.
Hamilton is moving to level 3 restrictions for 5 days. This series could be in trouble. F^^k Covid.
Yup – the series is now in doubt. Auckland won’t be moving down levels anytime soon and quite a number of players from various squads are up here. Add the complication of Hamilton/parts of Waikato now being moved up alert levels and you get a potential mighty mess that is unworkable.
The Roses test series was a bit of a shambles for the SF. To clarify, not the loss but the injuries, lack of training, connections, no crowds etc
The SF NEED these games. Crossing fingers there is a plan B.
BTW I see the SF will play three consecutive games against the men. Another genius move to play the more challenging games.
I saw an ad on TV this morning for it – so hopefully it is still going ahead.
Hamilton can never seem to draw very good crowds – so limited/no spectators wouldn’t make much difference and I think most of the players are based in Wellington at the moment anyway (just from seeing the odd IG post), so can’t see there being much of an issue with it moving – they should’ve all been getting prepared for it anyway, so a quick relocation yesterday shouldn’t’ve been an issue (personally I think it was stupid not having any new travel restrictions imposed – lots of people going away for school holidays – next minute it’s spread across the country again)
I agree Baller. The series against England was just odd. And Noels was made to look even more odd with her odder selections.
@Kerryn – I agree re holidays and movement. I think the defining area should have been travel allowed in SI at L2, not in the NI. Not sure where you live but I’m right in the thick of it in Auckland – just came back from a 7km bike ride and so many kids on the skateboard parks and bike tracks and playing with no parental supervision, no wonder its an undetermined minefield up here atm. I’m over it but I still respect what we have been asked to do.
I wonder if Southland could host the event?
Nelson would be a good option
@Maryann I’m in Ngaruawahia – so just north of Hamilton – I saw on the covid FB page earlier someone from Auckland bragging they’d spent last weekend down in Raglan – proudly unvaccinated etc etc – I really hope the powers that be are looking into it – as that very well could be who brought it down this way. But I think they should’ve included atleast Cambridge, Te Awamutu and even Morrinsville in level 3 – just with the amount of people that work/travel to and from Hamilton each day – frustrating that they haven’t been able to update the places of interest yet either
some people are shocking – the majority doing the right thing, and the small number that are just totally ruining it for everyone – the guy across the road has just gone out for the 8th time today (as far as I can tell he’s unemployed so no idea where he is going he does this most days not just during lockdown) the house next to him have had people coming and going right from the initial lockdown in August – including a fairly large kids birthday part in the last level 3 (with only 1 mask insight) :negative: :negative:
oh I would love to see it in Southland – you’d be guaranteed a sell out crowd, and if I remember correctly from last year, they can section off the stadium which would allow more people in even with restrictions
It’s been moved to a new venue, official announcement soon.
moved to Wellington, NZA & U21’s no longer involved – I think that was a bit’ve a waste with a lot of the top u21’s already being involved in the SF’s and NZA – and other’s over looked completely
Difficult decision for sure but makes absolute sense given a real ‘shortage’ of players at the moment. Heres the link if I can post – excuse the error in the heading i.e. Christchurch instead of Wellington.
