@mcleod agree 100% regarding Toeava, but I think based on her ANZ performance (when really the only WD that shut her down was Savaiinaea) there would’ve been questions as to why she wasn’t (Even though the first time she was selected it also showed she just wasn’t at that level) – and had they been able to have their proper training caps prior to the England series I don’t think she would’ve made any of the match day 12’s but another player that is good at a regional level but just doesn’t quite make the mark on the international stage, actually the opposite of Poi – who by her standards had a sort’ve ordinary season but you know she’s going to shine in the black dress
Toeava will just get monstered by the men just like how the roses did to her. The men and roses WD’s all have such long reach her vision will probably be blocked completely.
I feel Toeava isn’t a “come-off-the-bench” type player. She’s a player that needs to start, and builds confidence as the game goes on.
Saunders has proven she can be that impact player. Having Crampton as the starting WA (and also being captain) Toeava I’m guessing is mainly there for training purposes 🤷♂️I agree with all re Toeava. And there’s no shame in being such a player who excels at league level but doesn’t make a mark on the national team; I would put excellent players such as Gabi Simpson, Bulley and McMeniman in the same boat. Can’t think of many NZ examples due to lack of depth!
@museboy you could almost put Tuivaiti in there – but she was never really given the opportunities at SF level, but definitely excelled at league level, also Wendy Frew (but was often behind Langman) another one I was thinking of in Aus would be Teagan Phillip.
I mean it’s still a bloody good accomplishment being just below the very top – but just not quite there
Cat Latu would have been much better, if Maria wasn’t in the Ferns, then Langman would have passed the ball to Cat.
Maia and Tiana in the goal ring to start.
Heffernan at WD – hopefully its not because Kersten was hurt when she took that large fall last evening.
Ferns behind 17-14 after 15. Few missed shots, but the moving circle of Wilson and Metuarau are working well together and combining beautifully with Crampton in WA and Gordon at C. Tidy up the finish on the shot and the Ferns are back in this.
1/4 time: NZ Men 17-14
Wilson 11/15 (73%)
Metuarau 3/5 (60%Geldard 14/15 (93%)
Smith 3/4 (75%)Penalties: NZ Men 10-7
Turnovers: NZ Men 6-4Men’s team playing well, and pressuring the shooters again. Ferns have had one more shot, but trail by 3.
Tiana’s feeding into Wilson is fantastic. Beside the tricky dicky pass under the hoop a few mins ago.
The men have done their homework on Tiana’s tricks methinks and have pretty much shut her down as the second half has gone on. I see Grace has the GS bib on so I hope Noels moves Maia to GA as they worked well together.
Yes, why isn’t Saunders on at Centre? Gordon’s burrowing and barging is not pretty to watch.
Great, Tiana and Grace in goals.
Agreed with homework done on Tiana, personally never been too fusses with her play style, without the new no short pass rule she wouldn’t be as good in the circle and her jumping back into the defenders or taking their space would easily be a contact.
