I just watched the Constellation Cup on sky and I think Burger and Watson should be the starting defence. Wow they are exciting together! Possibly Sulu, Watson and Burger/ Sammy in WD will be strong also. I actually think Burger just needs to be on all the time lol.

Still think it is 50/50 odds for both teams. Like Jaimie said in the preview, never underestimate a determined Australian team.

            My picks:
            GS Bassett Wilson
            GA Austin Ekenasio
            WA Watson Crampton
            C Moloney Kersten
            WD Simpson Winders
            GD Weston Watson
            GK Bruce Fitzpatrick

End of the day, I just want to see some good netball (and some test experience/debuts) :yahoo:

Baller you could be very much on the money with your starting Diamonds line!

Back in 2008 – Cox was coming off a career best season in the new ANZP however was injured for the first game vs NZ. Injuries wreaked havoc the rest of the shooters and Bevo is called into the squad as a last minute replacement. She’s also given the starting bib in her Diamonds debut. Many assumed the Ferns would take it out, but the Diamonds had other ideas and won the match with Bevo being Player of the Match.

Go forward to 2012 – the Ferns lose their captain Kopua to injury so they sat with the untested backline of de Bruin/Grant/Scarlett. Again, most tipped the Diamonds but the Ferns took out the first game in Melbourne.

This test reminds me of those – nearing the start of new cycles, with untested coaches and key players missing.

While on paper this is a 50/50 test series, I think the Ferns have more to lose and I think Wilson will take a few tests to settle against the Diamonds. Combined with a weakened defense line, Bassett having something to prove and no home crowd support, I expect the Diamonds to win by about 5 goals.

I absolutely agree with Baller’s starting sevens (except maybe Burger/Watson at GD/GK). The goal is to still win, and development is next in line. I think the Australian team listed above is definitely stronger than the Kiwis BUT you can never underestimate either of these sides!

My reasoning is that I think the Aussie midcourt is simply stronger all over the court. Charles will possibly get a run and that will not be a detriment, except that it removes the combination of Watson/Moloney. Also, I think that Fitzpatrick’s style of defence plays into Bassett’s hands, so they’d probably need Watson on Bassett at some stage, and possibly Burger will be a good match for Austin.

The big strength for NZ is that wonderful combo of Ekenasio and Wilson. Still, I think Bruce is the best suited GK in the world to put on Wilson (or Mes if used).

Charles over Proud and Hadley? Sheesh. It’ll be interesting to see how this lineup goes. Very glad to see Simpson back in there though!!

Some good points museboy and Andrew. I can’t call it lol. I have no idea which way it will go. There’s some fierce players in both teams. 5ish hours to go. 🤗

I see it more as Moloney and Charles in for Proud and Hadley – meaning the latter will get a test together as a combo at the expense of the former. Watson is a no brainer for all tests.

I am actually looking forward to seeing Charles play C with a quality WA. She is super fit and has a decent defensive game.

Australians to miss out – Jess Anstiss, Jamie-Lee Price, Maddy Proud, Paige Hadley

Hey Baller, if those teams are right, we’ll have Watson, Watson, Weston, Wilson and Winders!

There’s also… Watson, Watson, Weston, Wilson, Crampton, Simpson, Austin and Kersten

                                  But only one Ekenasio 😉 😉 😉

The SF are still guessing the team also
