Looking forward to watching this. I’m glad Poi got used, and by reading everyone’s comments on here, looks like she went well.
What a great series this is turning out to be, for both teams. Being able to expose players to this level, and also seeing good netball played.
I love reading all the comments on here, especially if I haven’t seen the game yet. It gives me a good insight on how things went. One thing I’m particularly happy about, was no one mentioned anything about the umpires! Which is great 👍
MVP should have been Wilson and if not her then J Watson, but I’m a fan of Winders so good on her.
MATCH REPORT🗞

The Diamonds post game write up is interesting…pretty much says the loss is because of Diamonds attack and shooters. No mention of defence.
I missed this match. What on earth happened?!!! Austin had a massive turnover count. Did we see Bassett/Koenan?
Pretty harsh to lay blame primarily at the shooters / attack when Koenen and Austin were playing their 3rd tests and Moloney about her 9th. Defense needs to take responsibility as well. It’s a team game. The experience is in that end of the court and when the game was in the balance they couldn’t win any ball. Mentor has spoken many times as captain of teams with inexperienced attack lines and has always said we know we have young players down there so as the experienced ones we need to step up and win ball. Just keep sending it down there. The Diamonds didn’t do that. Am hoping for a change in the Diamonds defensive circle next test and that Marinkovich doesn’t have blinkers on regarding Bruce.
Referees….who is writing this on an official Diamonds page?
Interesting progression here regarding the winning team in each Q so far in this series…
NZ, NZ, NZ, Aus, Aus, Aus, NZ, NZ, Aus, Aus, NZ, NZBut tellingly, in the last 2 tests, we’ve seen this pattern repeated:
Aus, Aus, NZ, NZSo far in this series…
1st half: Aus by 12
2nd half: NZ by 14The wins have also been alternating since the start of the Constellation Cup in 2019…
NZ by 1, Aus by 6, NZ by 1, Aus by 7, NZ by 5, Aus by 9, NZ by 6, ???The double change of Poi and Watson J, was the game changer.
Poi was amazing, and Jane at 31ys young just keeps getting better and better.I agree mcleod. Watson’s three intercepts in the last quarter were ferocious. All her intercepts were in that last quarter. Yes, game changer.
When Watson went off for a while, I thought ‘only bringing 3 defenders might be the Ferns downfall’. That Watson was taken off because she was exhausted and then did what she did in the last quarter was phenomenal. I think there was a comment on here saying Burger should have been kept on as Watson wasn’t doing much when she first returned to the court. How Watson found the energy to take those spectacular intercepts was incredible.
Full credit to the Ferns taking out that win after playing catch up ball for most of the game. The experience Taurua got in the Suncorp league has been invaluable in closing out tight games as we saw in this game.
I didn’t think Marinkovich ran enough subs. I would have tried Bruce on Wilson. Klau wasn’t able to contain Wilson. (Btw have always wondered if the way Wilson obstructs the GD from running back to the transverse line at the reset is legal. She seems to be the initiating contact). Didn’t think Austin’s shooting % was good enough. Diamonds will be more potent when Wood and Tippett return.
Watson played a good game. So did Wilson who has upped her game no end.
Austin is definitely a starting Diamonfs of the future but she has work to do. Her shooting percentage and turnover count is too costly at the moment. If I were Stacey, I would’ve used the latter of that game to run another shooting combination.
Maia Wilson will likely have to play, every minute of every game.
She was outstanding today. 2 years ago she was way down the pecking order.
But her fitness has improved massively, she seems to have also calmed down a lot, but do feel the lid could flip though. -
