So good to see some netball in January. Now roll on CC.

Well done NE! Looked like a great run for the girls. I really enjoy watching these young guns mixed with experience. Totally a good prospect for the future the Roses.

Trip and May should absolutely get their UK passport. 😍

Leota still doing those impossible feeds!😍

What did everyone think of this series? And the concept in general? Some top players were missing from All Stars, so it could have been even better.

We mentioned the same thing after the Bushfire Charity Match in Australia last year… why not make this an annual event?

It has been rally good to watch some competitive netball in what feels like ages!

Liana Leota has got better with age – her no look passes were amazing. She was definitely the player they need to shut down.

Trip and May were brilliant together, they really shut down the shooters when they were on. The circle definitely opened up when they came off and Caldwell came on.

I think in the last game, HH did look a bit quiet in the circle some of the time as they were double marking her a lot. She worked it out though and changed her game. Her defence is phenomenal for an attacker as is SDL’s. Sophie Drakeford-Lewis is like a new player, confident, deadly accurate and good on defence. Her and Quashie are surely starting future England players.

I don’t understand the comment about Kadeen Corbin coming back (in reference to the squad JT needs to cut) where from? I really hope she isn’t in contention. I can’t watch a game when she is playing without thinking she looks out of her depth. I would rather pick SDL than Corbin.

I think the defence end is pretty stacked for EN (so we definitely don’t need Trip and May – sorry!) They aren’t going to get picked over England players that have been in the programme for years. There is Mentor, Usoro-Brown, Guscoth, Frances, Williams, Quashie, Oyesola already!

The series was great for the time they had and the protocols that were in place. I would definitely love it to be factored in to the international pre season again, but with a better balance in the all stars squad, could easily be achieved if franchises planned it and knew which players they would be losing/putting forward. Same with the bush fire setup, it’s great to see how relaxed players can be in that environment and the standard of netball can remain high.

Especially next year if Madi Browne is over, imagine the experience and skill of a Browne/Leota/Mvula attack!

Great final game to round out the series – agree it should be a regular feature. At the end of it, I was wondering about Comm games selection – Jess has deffo got some headaches ahead.

For once we have an embarrassment of riches right across the court; so who does she pick?

Shooters: HH and Jo pick themselves, and then she needs to take two from Ellie Cardwell, George Fisher and SDL (surely the Corbin ship has sailed by now? I’m with you BB). If you take SDL as a natural GA who can cover WA as well then which of the shooters misses out? I can see benefits to both

Midcourt: Serena and Nat H go straight in – then you’ve got Clarke, Cobden, Malcolm, Pitman (if she still wants to play) and Panagarry (who I thought was brilliant in game 3). I’m not convinced by Malcolm at WA but she is a workhorse at WD in particular – this is a tough one

Defence; Geva and Layla surely have to start, and then there’s Quashie, Oyesola (who can also cover WD) and Fran – plus EOB if she wants a last hurrah.

    What a predicament!

    I’d pick:

    Jo
    Helen H
    Nat H
    Serena
    Cobden

Aaagh computer meltdown and then it posted my unfinished piece – sorry!

    To finish:

    I’d pick:

    Jo
    Helen H
    Nat H
    Serena
    Beth
    Layla
    Geva

with SDL and Fisher (although I’d be happy with Cardwell), Jade or Laura M and Panagarry, and then Quashie and Oyesola.

    Thoughts?

My 12 after watching that series would be
    Harten
    Housby
    SDL
Fisher (Cardwell outplayed her this time but I really think George will develop so much in ANZ)
    Haythornthwaite
    Guthrie
    Malcom (never at WA though!!!)
    Gusgoth
    Williams
    Mentor
    Quashie

My final pick is a toss up between Cobden and Panagarry – personally prefer Beth’s style and we always have Layla or Fran if we need WD cover but I don’t think she is quite there yet.

I also don’t know how much sense it makes to have both Mentor and Quashie when they both very much just play GK. If quashie can get some time at GD this year in super league she will sew up her spot, but otherwise I’m not 100% sure.

SDL can cover WA and we did even see Housby there in World Cup so is possible 😂

WA is my only worry…I like Nat H there but we don’t really have another change-up option who is a natural attacking midcourter (unless Chelsea Pitman comes back, but I’m not sure both she and Nat get into this squad).

To be honest we could do with a good C/WA player, we are still so C/WD heavy!!

Hmm this is tough but based on current form:

Shooters: HH and Jo. Corbin’s out, I agree her ship has sailed. I’d take Cardwell and SDL. Cardwell shined more than Fisher during the NZ tour and the legends series. I think Fisher will improve in NZ but I don’t feel Guthrie and others feed her as well as they do Cardwell. SDL offers something different at GA. Lets not forget there’s still Nat H.

Midcourt: “Serena and Nat H go straight in” agreed. For me flexibility is going to be important so i’d pick Clarke and Malcolm over Cobden, Pitman and Panagarry but i do like Carter. Do Roses need a specialist WA or WD? i’d say no.
Serena, Nat H and Carter are my picks with one from Clarke or Malcolm.

Defence; Geva deffo. Oyesola is out, i don’t think she’s ready. Jodie G is out too. 3 out of Layla, Williams, Quashie, Shimmin and Francis. I like Shimmo but i didn’t think she shone at international level, maybe if she played her at GK. Francis wasn’t that great either. Geva, Layla and Williams are my picks. Then EOB depending on her fitness or Quashie depending on her learning to play GD. I wish Quashie could train with an SSN or ANZP team i’d love to see how she would develop.

    My 12

    Harten, Housby, Cardwell, Drakeford-Lewis
    Haythornthwaite, Guthrie, Cobden, Panagarry
    Guscoth, Oyesola, Mentor, Quashie.

Yes I can’t see both Nat and Chels being picked again, it doesn’t make sense to have two specialist WA’s, unless Jess is planning to play Nat more at GA. I think with SDL playing WA and Guthrie, Malcolm and Nat P can play there at a push, we should be fine.

The one we’re all forgetting is Francis – guess that if she’s fit she’s a replacement for Oyesola?
