if she is leaving Fever, I would love to see Glasgow and Alice play together as a moving circle
How exciting that the two NSW teams are in the grand final given the situation just like how the vixens did it for Victoria last year
Hay should be in the Diamonds squad. And not just because she’s had a few good games, but because she’s the best WA at feeding a moving circle and Australia doesn’t have any enormous players to lob the ball into. Who do we think would feed Koenen better, Hay or Charles?
How exciting for NSW that we have two teams in the grand final!! I’d love for the Swifts to win again but it would also be nice to see the Giants get over the line, especially after JFitz got so much criticism last year for supporting her younger shooters instead of CBass.
What a day for Fowler to have a stinker. Poolman definitely has a knack with the Jamaican shooters. Wallace has been pretty good against her so far, the Swifts have the advantage of Garbin up their sleeve as well.
So Stacy says Fowler moving around so much was not the game plan but Fowler kept doing it. Thank you Fowler….
and your two hip and shoulders on Poolman were a disgrace…well done Sam for MVP…well deserved.
Yes, as a Vixens member who took so much solace from them winning last year, I am really glad a NSW team will win this year given what they are going through.

To be fair to Fowler, I think that she cops a lot of hip and shoulders and niggle as defenders try to get under her skin. Unfortunately, as she is so strong and the biggest player in the comp, if she gives it out or back it looks worse than pretty much anyone else. I am not saying that she should do it, but perhaps it looks a bit worse than it is?
Thrilled for the Giants. I do feel for Fever, it would hurt to play one of your more lack lustre games at this point in the season.
I was surprised that Fever benched ATN for so long, or at least it felt like a long time. And I guess this game again showed Bruce’s weakness at defending the moving circle – Koenen exposed it too. Not that I am placing the loss on her, but she is just so much less effective against it and it is so normal to see her having such a big impact on matches.
And woohoo for Poolman – funny to think back to the Tbirds years!
I feel like Charles is a definite favorite of Stacey’s… she should have been taken off for longer than what she was today. Fowler was moving around and Charles could not feed her.
Why to the commentators harp on about the SSN being “The best Netball comp in the world”
The SSN does not resemble proper Netball.Time outs
Rolling subs
2 point shot for 20min of the game
not implementing the international short pass rule. The fact that the Fever got within 3 yesterday, by biffing up shots from mid range to get a extra point, shows it all.
I think rolling subs should stay and make their way to the international game. Completely removes the need for fake injury time outs which are just awkward to watch. Outside of that I agree, maybe 1 time out per half for a coach maybe but even that’s a stretch.
I’ve actually really enjoyed watching the ANZP more this year, really close and contested games and a much more steady game to watch which momentum that ebs and flows more organically than when timeouts are called.Everything they’ve introduced to make the SSN “more exciting and marketable” is a detriment to the diamonds who go out there and play against a NZ team who’s been playing by those rules all season.
Really pleased to see Poolman get MVP. She’s been impressive some games and yesterday she was great. I’ve been pretty meh about her until this season.
I do feel that Brandley and her compliment each other and Brandley’s style of play allows Poolman to play to her best too. When Kristiana has been on I haven’t seen Poolman play as well – they seem to be a less mobile combination and the work out front of GK has to be done in order for GK to perform to her best. Brandley certainly does that work.- This reply was modified 3 years, 3 months ago by Maryann.
Is that right about SSN not implementing the new short pass rule? I thought it was just that our players weren’t using it. If that’s true, then that’s one rule difference they’ve got absolutely right. That new rule is an absolute joke.
Why would they not use it. Clearly in the Con Cup in Feb. They had no idea that NZ could do the short pass.
As far as I’m aware it is in this years SSN. Definitely wasn’t last year. It is used a lot less in Australia out of habit, it’s also a lot harder to use against tight one on one defence because that’s where it will be called a short pass more often if it’s deemed a players hand couldn’t pass through the ball transfer.
In NZ, the only players that really exploit it are Tiana and Eke. And Maria would have if she was still playing.
It’s not pretty and I hope it’s reversed after the next WC when they usually bring in all the rule changes.
I do find the Fever time-out breaks quite boring and un-inspiring. It’s a big circle, with Stacey M talking to them like a school teacher. None of the players give any input until the end, when Bruce gives a little pick-me-up speech in the huddle.
Dwyer is a star! Would love to see how she’s go in the Diamonds environment. She’s the type of shooter (GA) you need, when running a moving circle.
My pick Diamonds shooters: Koenan Bueta Wood and Dwyer (if they don’t select Dwyer, I would take CBass)
Great thing about Dwyer is she has played more GS as a young player. So she would be quite comfortable there with the height of Bueta out in front of her. Her ability to go from the post from range would be a real problem for defenders with a player like Bueta out in front of her who you can not leave alone, and there to take rebounds.
