Swifts played great in the first half, Firebirds took the second half. I wouldn’t say one team deserves the win over the other but with one goal in it, this Power 5 period is going to be important. Bueta is really getting into this game, sinking some super shots. Ravallion may not have the stats today but the immense pressure she has kept up throughout this game has been so important and has helped Simpson grab a few intercepts. Both mums have returned quite well, obviously still room for improvement. The rest of this game will be very interesting.

Hadley moves to C, Moore to WD, Proud getting treatment for her eye.

Oooh, offside call from Ravallion after what looked like a little shove from Hadley, that might’ve been the break the Swfits needed.

Scores now even with 1 minute to go!

Housby sinks a shot with 5 seconds to go. EXTRA TIME!!!!! This feels like a Swifts vs Firebirds GF from the ANZ days.

Is would really like Firebirds to take this win but I don’t think it will happen.

That was incredible. Firebirds only had to hold on to the ball for the last 16 seconds and they couldn’t do it. Swifts had 10 seconds to take the ball down court and score and they did. 64-64. Extra time coming up!

Firebirds with a chance to break back, Hinchliffe throws the ball over a third…

Hmmmm the downside of extra time, as some suspected, NO POST-MATCH WRAP! Straight to the next match.

Ravaillion grew tremendously over the match. Proud was on top early but Rav was winning that battle by the end. Simpson was fantastic. Bueta had a few wild passes but that should settle down as she plays more games. FBs have to solve the WA position. Two options. Choose one and let it settle. Felt like they constantly changed that position. Also need their defenders to stay in play and win ball. Bit like Klau did to get Swifts into ET.

These two plus Fever look the best so far. Albeit Lightning were better than I expected due largely to Wood.

Watching Thunderbirds vs Giants and there is no score being televised alongside the game, very frustrating.

I’m not sure how I feel about Petty at C, I much preferred Nankivell there as was seen in the pre-season. Maybe it’s more about how she matches up against JLP.

Harten not giving Sterling an inch but the Thunderbirds’ defensive pressure in the circle is a little lacking at the moment. Garrett has gotten her hand to more ball than I expected though, with a few deflections.

Until the Power 5, Poolman and Brandley really focused on isolating Potgieter, forcing Horjus to shoot long. Potgieter is proving hard to find in the circle and is getting frustrated with the attention she’s receiving.

                              QTR Time: Giants 14-10

If you look at the turnovers in the previous match, the Swifts were at 7 by half time and Firbrids at 10. Thunderbirds are at 8 within a quarter and there is not a lot of flow between players.

                                1/4 time: Giants 14-10

Tbirds breaking down in attack with 8 turnovers in the first Q. It’s not the fault of these two teams but this feels like the calm after the storm having witnessed Firebirds v Swifts

Austin has gone down clutching her knee, bad landing.

While we couldn’t see her face Sterling instantly saw the pain and got down to help her, Harten’s reaction was another one to look at, walked away holding her face after Austin was lifted up.
