Interesting comments from Dwyer. I do understand them from the perspective that sitting on the bench all season is tough especially if it takes away the opportunity to play state league.
Will be interesting to see what SSN does for next week. We have the Giants in quarantine in Perth expected to play at their best after an awful preparation. It’s not feasible for other teams to go through that to play in Perth. Pretty sure Vixens are still in Brisbane. They were supposed to fly home after their game yesterday but on IG they were all together watching the AFL. Perhaps the two Melbourne teams could set up in Sydney pending what happens in Melbourne? NSW seems to have the most generous border rules.
On to today’s game..!!!
1/4 time: Lightning 15-12
Well, it’s close. That’s for sure. But we saw 16 turnovers in that first Q shared between the two teams. Both defences working well with the two GKs coming up with valuable possession only to see it squandered at the other end
The T’Birds can’t convert any of their turnovers. Too many loose balls thrown by the midcourters at the important moments.
It’s that time again to get frustrated when teams gain possession and think that’s the signal to race down court throwing wild passes and just give the ball straight back!
But Tbirds are right in this and they’ve taken the lead. 20-19
I’m so pleased for Garrett, she is having such a good season and really seems to be going from strength to strength
Potgeiter frustrates me so much, I don’t expect her to shoot from super far away but she won’t take the shot unless she is directly under the post

Again Potgieter and her refusing to shoot anywhere from under the post and this time blaming her team mates for not passing to her quickly enough
T’Birds need to find a new GS. Potgieter definitely offers something but I don’t think she’s dominant enough to be their focal point. Wallam, Garbin, Austin (Lucy) and even Gooden offer far more on the shot. If they keep her next year I think it’s probably as their third shooter.
Lightning are such a tough team to gauge. They look so lethargic but then will randomly play very well (like in Q1 against Fever or parts of last week against the Swifts).
Ironically, the Thunderbirds are down because of super shots. Without them, they would be up by a few goals. It’s pretty close so I don’t see the need to make changes yet but might need Gooden later.
Sterling’s half-time interview was interesting, her form hasn’t been what we’ve seen in previous seasons and she mentioned that herself as well. Talked about working on her confidence, which I think some people assume she doesn’t struggle with just because of some of the sass we have seen in the past.
Al_ex I agree and to think they let Glasgow go is a head scratcher. If I were them I’d have Horjus as a middie and use the space for Nyah Allen to come in.
1/2 time: Lightning 30-29
It’s a real battle out there. The mistake rate dropped in that 2nd quarter, and it developed into a goal for goal match. Lightning just taking a slight advantage thanks to Wood’s 3/4 super shots. Maweni with 5 gains so far!
Quite different 3 seconds from the 2 umpires; noticeably shorter from umpire to the left.
Don’t understand the changes that were just made to T’birds mid court. It all seemed to be going well
Did they really need to bring McDonald on for the last five minutes? Turnover caused within 30 seconds.
Edit: Make that two turnovers in two minutes. Costly change, and a bad one in my opinion.

Yes, I agree, the held ball calls have been inconsistent today, some questionable ones as well. The one on McAuliffe just then was so short!
