Vixens need a new GA more than Collingwood…
If they were after one though then ATN might go back to Collingwood now Richardson is in charge. Nelson is a high enough volume shooter to offset ATN’s low volume. ATN would feed Nelson very well.
I doubt Dwan will go anywhere. I just think it’s a shame how little they are playing her. Bueta isn’t in great form (yet!!) so there should be greater opportunities for Dwan.
On the fixture for the upcoming split round – https://supernetball.com.au/fixture – none of the four games over the two weekends are being shown on 9. This is even though they’re at 3pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday, the usual time for games being on 9. Is this right?
I’m surprised they haven’t tried Bueta at WA, and Dwan GA.
I know this is way off, but I’ve always wanted to see Bueta in defence. Her height and athleticism would be great in there.

According to the tv guide they are being shown
Sat 19 Jun Swifts v Firebirds 3pm
Sun 20 Jun 1pm Giants v ThunderbirdsThe guide only goes up to the 20th June so don’t know about the following week but I would assume they will both be shown
Hi snowy, thank you. I checked the programming on my television, I have the games set on LINK RECORD on Foxtel. The Saturday game is set to record. No idea why they haven’t included on the Fixture.
There was a stage where a lot of people were calling for Bueta to play defence. In her early years her accuracy was terrible and she used to get a few intercepts a game at GA. She played GD at Fast5 and was great. After her accuracy improved and she became less focused on defence she settled into the circle better.
I’m very late to the chat as I wanted to watch a last quarter which I’d missed. Talking about swifts vs thunderbirds and I can’t get over something. Garbin has been used with only moderate effectiveness at GA this season. We also saw her used there quite ineffectively at a national level on the con cup. This week just gone, the swifts were losing and they needed changes.
We saw housby to Gs, haythornthwaite (short-lived though it was) to GA, Garbin and GA but never Garbin at GS. In previous years, Garbin has come on at GS and had a blinder and won the game for them. A fever game from two years ago comes to mind…So why, oh why, was she not there on the weekend? When all else failed and bibs went up in the air, why was she not used. I know Sterling likes a holding shooter but Garbin’s hold is strong and unusual so why not give it a go? It just felt weird to me. And maybe something they’ll regret with that four quarter loss? Anyone know what’s going on? Housby at Gs and Garbin at GA was just one quick change away from a new possibility… hmmmm
Most simple answer I have is that Garbin was destroyed by Stirling in a previous game when she was in GS. The Swifts were obviously wanting to put some movement on Stirling to play the ball low.
Yeah, I think the aim was to have Housby on Sterling as much as possible. Housby always gets on top of Sterling, she did it for England at CWG and also for the Swifts in 2020. The problem for the Swifts is they don’t have a good enough backup GA. Garbin’s ball handling and movement have improved a lot but she’s still not confident at GA unless she’s just playing an assisting role to Wallace. I don’t actually think the shooters were the problem last week though, all four attacking midcourters just had a terrible day and couldn’t settle into the match at all. Wallace is a smart shooter and offers good movement. Plus the feed into her was actually on half of the time, the feeders just refused to give it.
I understand what they were trying to do with having Housby on Sterling but I’ve been dying to see Garbin in GS this year and I don’t think we’ve seen it once
She played a bit against Fever and was quite good. The problem for her is that she’s gotten shaky on the shot and Wallace is so much better now than she used to be. Throughout much of 2018 and 2019 it felt like Garbin was overtaking, but since last year Wallace has been dominating week in week out and Garbin hasn’t been able to match her consistency. After that Fever game where she scored 22 goals in a quarter, she played pretty averagely the next few games. I love having her at the Swifts but she really does need to move next season, unless she’s committed to being a GA option and overtaking Housby. She may have missed her chance though, now that Vixens have Samason, Nelson has improved and Fever have Glasgow. I don’t think Obst rates her that much, she certainly didn’t in U21 days.
