QTR 2
17-29 Mavericks
Mavs force an error to gain possession and a goal in the final 30 seconds of the quarter. They recycle the ball back quickly and score from their own centre with only seconds left. They deserve the halftime lead.
Yes Jinxibo, I didn’t think that it looked like a short pass. Although last time I played (pre pandemic) was told it wasn’t even called this anymore??!
@BB, re Kadeem she did look a bit manic at one point. She injects some pace but she plays way too quickly for those around her.
I think Storm will struggle without Middleton but I don’t think it deserved a warning
QTR 3
30-39 Mavericks
Storm mounted a mini comeback. Mavs were able to hold they off but the margin is down to 9.
QTR 4
Storm 41 Mavericks 53
Solid game from the Mavs. Storm rallied very briefly in that quarter after Mavs emptied their bench. But it was too little too late and Mavs pulled away for the win
MVP: KadeemThat’s what I love about netballers, we come in all shapes, sizes and colours.
Does anyone know how tall Bella Baylis is?
Full time: Mavericks 53-41
Player of the Match: K Corbin
After a close 1st Q, Mavs took over in the 2nd, and basically controlled things from there. The 1/2 time margin was also the full time margin. No Venter or Gibson either today.
Can some post the scores for the next match please?
my valentine surprise has arrived  :rose:
Stars v Wasps was much as you would expect, Wasps put out a great performance and Stars really do have a lot to work on. Fran Williams was exceptional and got hand to so much ball! Leota started at C and then was taken off court in the second quarter and came back on later. Dunn asbolutely burned Herdmann on the base line and it didn’t really look like Stars had a plan B defensively.
Score breakdown was
Q1 – 4-16
Q2 – 14-31
Q3 – 20-43
Q4 – 34-53 (Stars won this 14-10!! Wasps changes took a while to settle in and Stars looked really determined)so good to have netty back. I’ve just sorted out a VPN so have only watched the Dragons v Rhinos game so far.
Jinixibo thanks for all the great commentary on the games. One point to make on this comment:
“Walliams didn’t look out of place and she ran down lots of ball. She’s not polished enough to be a diamond.
Can’t help but wonder if she looked settled because Lee-Jones was so ineffective. Have to admit I’ve seen her in SSN and expected more”.Wallam has only been playing netball for a couple of years so has huge Diamond’s potential. Not just yet but in a few years I think we will see her in the team. I would expect huge improvement in the couple of seasons. She was only a training partner for West Coast Fever last year and hasn’t played any SSN games so I’m not sure where you have seen her. She is very much an unknown even in Australia (but not for long LOL).
Agree with ALJ. She has been lucky to be in SSN teams but hasn’t really done much at all in her few appearances in games. If Noeline couldn’t improve her then I don’t know who can.

AllieC, despite obviously watching ALJ at Lightning for two seasons, I actually never really thought about her working under the tutelage of Noeline. That’s actually a really interesting point, because Noeline is clearly an incredible coach, so I’m really interested to see if being at Dragons actually develops her game at all. I totally can appreciate her perhaps being out of her depth at Lightning training (have absolutely no idea if this is true at all just making assumptions here but can imagine coming up against Steph Wood and CBass would intimidate anyone)
So perhaps being surrounded by players of her *current* level of fitness, experience and intensity might really help her! Still want to see her at GS!Really surprised Lee-Jones hasn’t been given a go at the shooting end. I’ve seen her for precisely one quarter at GS in a pre-season game and I know that’s not much to go on but to me she looked far more suited to that position than GK.
Zara her fitness has never seemed to be as high as her teammates. In a good team dynamic she shouldn’t be intimidated. She seemed to be well loved at her past few teams so I’m sure they were super supportive of her. She has been in elite teams for years now and hasn’t seemed to improve so not sure that it is going to happen. Yes she needs more court time but coming on for short bursts has made many players as we saw last year. When the opportunity comes you just have to grab it. I hope she does well, going OS (especially during a pandemic) can’t have been an easy decision.
Couldn’t agree more @thebroadbean & @gari – it wouldn’t happen in football so why does it happen in netball? Tamsin STILL can’t get Haythornthwaite’s name right (despite the fact that she played for Tamsin at Wasps for several years) and Cholhok isn’t a tough one. Most sports would provide a phonetic pronounciation guide for commentators, but even if EN doesn’t do that any more, how hard is it to research, or practice? Good to note that Katherine Merry spoke to Jas Odeogberin’s mum on social media during the match yesterday to get it right. If we want to be seen as professional, this is the sort of thing that matters.
Bella Baylis is apparently 1.65 – so a little ‘un!
