Really enjoyed seeing Grierson and Dixon in the circle together!!
FULLTIME
Rhinos 41 Lightning 70
Lightning looked polished. Rhinos have seen what they need to do in order to make the top 4
MVP Cobden
Full time: Lightning 70-41
I kind of expected a big win, but not quite this big. Rhinos simply had no answer. Even in the last Q with Cholhok having a rest, Lightning still won it 15-10. Their midcourt ran riot. They’re a big challenger for the title.
Cholhok scored 51/56 in 36 minutes of netball. That equates to 85 goals in a regular 60 minute match.
Now that is a mindblowing stat
Dragons v Mavericks
Dragons
GS ALJ
GA Rudland
WA Robinson
C O’Dwyer
WD Clare Jones
GD Tyrell
GK ThomasMavericks
GS Venter
GA Kadeem
WA Lees
C Marshall
WD Ecuyer-dale
GD Gibson
GK QuashieKadeem and Venter combining well, Dragons looking unsure with the feed into ALJ.
4-16 Mavs
QTR 1
8 – 19 Mavs
Apparently the Mavericks haven’t played or trained together fully, said the coach.
ALJ is easily beating Quashie in a 1 on 1 situation with a circle feed.
ALJ is much stronger as a GS than a GK. Has shown some nice footwork and movement as well to create space for her GA. If she works on her shooting and strength in the air I could definitely see her getting more opportunities there. The Dragons defence end just don’t seem to be able to turn over ball unfortunately.
QTR 2
21 – 31 Mavs
The feed into ALJ has improved but so has Quashie, she’s getting hand to ball and contesting everything.
Dragons won that quarter but they haven’t been able to stop the ball flying into Venter.
Clare Jones is getting the better of Lees at WA and that could be the difference in the second half.
ALJ should not be playing GK, she is clearly a rusty GS. They need to work on their ball placement into her, if they could just go a fraction higher she would be beating Quashie. Raz is getting tips when its just that bit too low. Also so impressed with Rudland at GA she is so strong for them there and actually imo, a better option at GA than Robinson, who is struggling slightly with the WA role. If Dragon’s can work with this attacking line in the second half and get some fluidity they will be table to take a lot from this game.
@ Zara – I agree she definitely looks like a rusry GS. If Clinton improved her GA play they could be quite force together.
QTR 3
31-43 Mavs
Quashie is in the head of the Dragons attackers. She has confused the space so much that they are hesitant on the feed.
Venter was benched in favour of Brit Clarke who Austin has described as a strong athlete. I wonder if we’ll see Venter at GA.
Dan Ryan said ALJ has played most of her netball career at GS. IMO her movement and repositioning are poor. Dame NT kept her at Lightning for a reason. I’m guessing she was looking for an improvement that didn’t materialise.
FULLTIME
Dragons 41 Mavericks 61
My MVP is Quashie. She disrupted the play beautifully. It took her a quarter to work out how to play ALJ but after that she was very good.
Venter played like a VNSL veteran, it will be interesting to see how she fares against stronger teams.
Dragons have improved, didn’t rate Robinson at WA but Ruland the GA was good.
MVP Lees
