Yes, they’ve still got a stack of great players, they’re just not playing in their best positions.

        QTR 1

        8 -12 Mavs

Shaky start by both teams but Mavs settling first. Barrie and Goodwin start in the circle and their path to goal is proving to be not as easy as their earlier games together. Mavs are fielding a new defensive line for this game of Quashie, Trip and Gibson

          Sirens v Mavericks…

          1/2 time: Mavericks 18-15

Sirens are sticking with their favoured opponents but it’s incredibly scrappy. There was a period of almost 6 mins in the 2nd Q where just one goal was scored! Then Sirens struck with 2 in the last 16 seconds to narrow the gap to 3

            QTR 2

            15 – 18 Mavs

Hard to describe this game but i think awful is appropriate.

Mavs defence are working hard and really well to get the ball and when they do their attack are throwing it away. Balls flying off the attacking backline, held or a misunderstandings. It’s painful to watch from the Mavs.

Sirens are working the ball around nicely as they wait for an opening in their attack. The problem is the openings aren’t appearing and they end up forcing the ball into Barrie. Goodwin looked a bit tired towards the end of the half. Cullen at WD having a good game on Sasha C.

Mikki Austin in commentary nailed Kadeem. “It’s great playing with speed but only if you have control

                QTR 3

                22 – 26 Mavs

Sirens benched Goodwin but it didn’t change their style of play and they reduced the gap to 2. Kadeem, on a caution, Corbin started the quarter on the bench and re-entered the game after Venter rolled her ankle. Mavs are still full of errors

                  3/4 time: Mavericks 26-22

A late run that quarter from Mavericks after Sirens managed to narrow the gap to just 1 goal. Again, very scrappy in attack from both sides with a stack of turnovers.

                    Full time: 34-34 draw

Well, not sure what to say about that one. I think a draw was probably a fair result, because I’m not sure either team deserved to win. It really was such a scrappy game. But Sirens will definitely be the more pleased of the two teams.

                      Sirens 34 Mavericks 34

LOL   with less than 45 seconds on the clock the Corbin sisters attempt a quick 121, only for Vinkhumbo o step between them and intercept the ball (as she had been doing for the entire game).

40 seconds left and Sirens level the scores and it’s their centre pass next. Sirens score but were unable to stop Mavs squeezing in the final goal with 5 seconds left to draw the game.

                      MVP Vinkhumbo

Kat Rat the Mavs coach was not happy with that game and said the Sirens deserved to win.

Mavs had plenty of ball, they should have had the game sewn up by half time. Sirens were consistent as ever and stuck to their game plan. They were the better team.

                          10-11 Pulse

This is a score I wasn’t expecting. Pulse have stepped up but can they maintain it for 4 quarters.

Sigi Burger missing 2 penalty shoots at the end and missing the opportunity to give her team a 2 goal lead

Vinkhumbo would be a world beater at GK if she was 10 cm taller. She has such great footwork and reads the game so well from GK. It’s a shame she hasn’t been able to transfer out to GD where her height is less of an issue, but she’s clearly still doing a great job at GK against lower level opposition.
