BTW thanks Ian for all the great work you put in to cover the NZ premiership. It’s much appreciated and must be a ton of work. Netballscoop is one of my regular sites I go to ?.
Great win by the Steel. It’s not like the Magic don’t have quite a few topline players. The defence end and coaching seems to be their weakness. Mikaere is too slow. Also they let Heffernan have a free reign running around the top of the circle and she got a lot of shots away. They didn’t really stop Fisher in the process of double teaming her either.
Re the magic:
5 of their starting 7 are SF squad or current team members (Ekanasio, Mes, winders, Kersten, Tong). It’s proof that if ekanasio and Mes are the ferns shooters that a midcourt of winders and Kersten is a joke at international levelKersten isn’t a C and Winders is worse. No chance of a medal if they are the 2 Ferns C options
Kiwikiwi you did watch the Con Cup 2021. Wilson was simply stunning. But hey if you want unproven GS/GA’s in the Ferns Com Games by all means go for it.
Wilson will be there.
Wonder if Noel’s comes on this site
And has a good chuckleWilson would be in my SF starting 7. She always manages to elevate her game internationally and can match defenders physically.
Minkie, I’m liking what Ekenasio and Mes are doing. Almost like training run getting to know each others play. Great shooting from distance from Mes yesterday.
Thanks Baller, Bayes is going ok, if that gets Meels in, that’s great.
As for Maia, she’s amazing under Noel’s, her toughness is what we need.
Dunn may be high in goals but unsure about fitness and team play (which Noel’s is high on)Am I correct in thinking that the Magic currently has the highest number of Ferns/squad members than any of the other ANZ teams?
Stars? Crampton, Wilson, Mila RB, Johnson & Harrison (no longer but high caps)
Pretty closeBayes and Meels aren’t current
Don’t know how you classify either player with limited court time due to injury and motherhood?I almost wrote TPSR off, especially after last season, there were times shed come off the court looking like she needed to puke, but wow what an improvement shes nailing the MVP and 90% accuracy not to mention the running around shes doing
OK, another way to look at it.. slow day at work today ?
If it was a gold medal match in the dying moments, out of all our shooters, I’d want the ball in either Eke or Dunn’s hands. And I’d want Mes under the hoop for the rebound.
Re Wilson and her place in the team and going off the boil throughout the year, TPSR and Mes have had their wobbles at times remember. Agree that Maia lifts another gear in the black dress. Also; I do think she’s best to match the physicality of Stirling, Mentor, Bruce. Match it, not get caught up in it is another thing. I worry some of our other shooters might get monstered.
You’re right about the getting monstered.
hopefully playing against the men will give them a good run – the two defense for the Stars men yesterday were very aerial and had long limbs going all over the show – so I think that would be good practice for the likes of Stirling – however might be a little too late if none of them cope with that
