So once Maddy Gordon returns, what happens to Pederson? She still apart of the team?

@Kerryn Yeah, it was honestly a baffling choice, and same with the recruiting – they have a bunch of really great players, but without a single WA specialist they are struggling big time. Do they have a specialist attacking coach at all? I feel like that should be a requirement with such a defense heavy team. Hopefully they’ll learn from today and have more WA cover in their squad next week – I have hope for Edgecombe (Giant’s Maddie Hay shows WD to WA can be done and done well), but they need more cover while she adapts.

Impressed with Bailey Mes, she playing her way into that comm games team also really like her combination with Rowland

If I was Araroa I’d be working on a Maihi and Tong partnership. Tong can read the play, Maihi has a great vertical leap and is useful at bringing the ball through court. Mikaere, while I sense is a great team player is just too often more miss than hit.

For Ekenasio I imagine she’ll be on managed minutes for most, if not all the season. What could cause headaches for the Ferns is if she is realistically only a GS option. You get the feeling she will be picked even if she’s playing on one leg.

Am I right in thinking the recap session after each game is NOT being shown on Netball Pass for international viewers. I saw a player from each team being interviewed but then nothing after that and a message about the next game.

A few things from the Magic v Pulse game. Bailey Mes is def an option and they need to give her the ball when she calls for it and she would be soooo dominate as a GS. Ekenasio is also a very long way away from any sort of match fitness let alone CWG selection.

MAG coaching decisions were very questionable and agree with the very glaring fact of a lacking WA.

Manua was extremely rough and she has always been a dirty player and a lot of late hits.

Also got the sense of a very pro Pulse umpiring.

And commentary once again pro winning team, and Waimarama this and Waimarama that and Central netball ya ya ya… we get it the first time.

    Overall disappointed.

Agree Ekenasio is months away from being fit for the ANZ, let alone 7 games at the com Games.
Mes looking like she has been unleashed from years or poor coaching. Loving it.
Magic! why sign 4 WD’s. It was a utter shambles yesterday.

Re yesterday game – I can’t imagine how Ekenasio is going to regain full fitness in time for CWG particularly when she is spending so much time flying back and forwards to Waikato for part weeks for training. As a second time mum I would have expected that she would have realised how exhausted she was and now with two children of her own under 5 it wasn’t going to get easier. The time spent on travel is just an added load.
Manu’a has just started off the way she finished at the Giants. I fail to see how any umpire can penalise the GA or GS when they are clearly being hit from behind but in all fairness to the umpires it is the start of the season and they will have benefit of watching the replays.

@Maryann somewhat agree concerning the umpiring, yeah it’s start of the season but these umpires should be used to it, yes I think the fella at the top umpiring they said was a debutante but again its not likes its their very first game ever and they do help umpire training matches ( not sure if they are this season in current climate). Was actually surprised to see Ian post the penalty count I thought it was much higher for Magic. A lot of non calls went Pulses way then maybe?? A lot of late contact calls that shouldve been given cautions or like in the starsv tactix game that went straight to warnings for dangerous play.

Pulse knew Mes was gonna be dangerous and a key factor and I think they singled her out to hammer her. Pretty sure every defending player took her down at some stage. I’m all for a bit of argy bargy but can’t stand dirty play.

Also great analysis on Ekenasios situation @Maryann didn’t realise she wasn’t centralised to the area for the season, it never bodes well for any player of team if you have a player coming in and out and she might not even be making every training session? At this stage and it looks pretty clear she won’t be ready for cwg I’d begrudgingly give her spot to Tiana. So Nweke, Wilson, Mes and Tiana.

    Anyways morning rant over hahaha

Agree about developing Maihi and Tong as a combination – mikaere is just too inconsistent, because she was great last week and then seemed very ineffective this week.

I might be alone in this but I thought Manu’a is playing better so far in NZ – she’s reading the play better and getting more tips, so more effective and less costly.

Anyone know if Edgecombe is playing WA for WaiBOP in NNL? Surely she should be playing full games there and then 30 mins for the Magic a week to build confidence and game smarts. I imagine a painful season ahead for all concerned if she’s ‘testing and learning’ in Magic games only.

I recall when Lokotui made the Pulse her first year, she was sent back to NNL to transition to WD/C before being elevated back to the Pulse side. Funnily enough I liked her best in her GD cameos last year.

@WeWood as much as I like Georgie – the WA’s for the NNL team are probably better options for the Magic at the moment(Simmone and Ngawai) she may get there but she does need far more game experience first rather than chucking her in the deep end like they did yesterday

and I think that was Savai’inaea the got picked by pulse as an in circle D while she was still at school, sat on the bench and then got dropped to Beko and now she’s a bloody good WD for the Steel

    Ahhh right you are @Kerryn.

And agreed, really owning her position for the Steel and I like the occasional switch when Renee goes into C too.

I think she is unlucky that there are such an abundance of top WD’s at the moment (a bit like Ioane, and I guess quite a few others over the years) as I think she could be awesome as a SF (she plays a bit like Jolene Henry in my opinion) and thought she was really hard done by not to get into the development squad (was the only WD that totally marked Toeva out’ve the game last year and hope she can do it again tonight) has shown she’s not afraid to put in the hard work, but sadly may never get the ultimate reward for it!!
