Stars:
GS Wilson
GA Malesala
WA Crampton
C Reuelu-Buchanan
WD Fowler
GD Temu
GK HarrisonPulse:
GS Dunn
GA Metuarau
WA Souness
C Pedersen
WD Lokotui
GD Manu’a
GK JuryThe commentators didn’t mention the Monday game. Has it been postponed?
Anyone else reckon Manu’a will be in the Ferns? Would make sense to take her along with Jury, plus Karaka and Fitzpatrick, and then Burger as the WD (Noels seems to like taking 5 defenders)
Also if Dunn doesn’t make the Ferns it will be an absolute tragedy.
Yes, Wilson too far under the ring and arching her back to keep the ball going into the bottom of the net. Has she always done that?
Just into the 2nd quarter and Pulse has a 9-goal lead. Loads of turnovers so far in this one. Stars just too wasteful.
Just find it strange that you have a player who could hardly get on the court in Australia, and she goes to NZ and suddenly people are saying she has to be in the test team.
1/2 time: Pulse 28-20
Wilson 12/13 (92%)
Malesala 4/5 (80%)Dunn 20/20 (100%)
Metuarau 8/11 (73%)So many changes of possession. 26 turnovers in the first half. Stars have threatened to eat into the lead, but each time, they give it straight back.
Ekenasio comes to mind @Ian – although at least Manu’a has game time under her belt. Ekenasio had basically warmed the bench at Firebirds for four seasons with minimal game time and went into the Ferns pretty undercooked.
What I think is in Manu’a’s favour at the moment is a season paired with Jury who I think is odds on for Birmingham.
Surveying the options, really it’s out of the following players for Ferns defensive selection:
Burger, Burley (a big stretch), Fitzpatrick, Johnson, Jury, Karaka, Manu’a.Yes my reasoning for picking Manu’a is her combination with Jury, who I would say is pretty much a guarantee based on her form at the moment.
Pulse with an 11-goal lead with 4 minutes to go third Q. Just maintaining their advantage in this game and Stars are unable to gain any sort of momentum. Kelly Jury has been too good at the back for Pulse.
3/4 time Pulse 43-30
Wilson 19/21 (90%)
Hume 5/8 (63%)Dunn 30/31 (97%)
Metuarau 13/18 (72%)Kelly Jury with 4 gains in that Q. The combination with Manu’a making life very difficult for Stars in attack. By comparison, the Pulse front line has found things much easier.
But would Ferns start Jury or Fitzpatrick at GK?
With Johnson and Karaka in the Quad squad will there be lots of changes?
Full time: Pulse 56-46
Wilson 26/28 (93%)
Hume 14/20 (70%)
Malesala 6/9 (67%)
TOTAL 46/57 (81%)Dunn 37/39 (95%)
Metuarau 19/25 (76%)
TOTAL 56/64 (88%)Assists: Souness, Crampton 17
Gains: Jury 8MVP: Aliyah Dunn (Pulse)
A good win for Pulse, continuing good form.
Well, I guess no Jane Watson makes a HUGE difference for NZ selection.
