Thanks interesting interview. Rob is a very astute coach. Brings something to every team he’s coached. Be weird if Jamaica take out the gold since he’s involved. Surely they would consider him for Diamonds coach then?

Just hope they don’t have the nz pairing of umpires in any medal matches that the ferns aren’t involved in. They need to have two from different countries. Bowring is good.

Rob Wright works best in a specialist/assistant role.

Even when he was Head Coach of the Swifts, Keelan had an equal role in the coaching, Rob was named the Head coach though. It worked well.

I thought that was a comprehensive victory by England, in fact if they had of kept Cardwell out there I think they may have won by even more.

Any notion that this may be a “good loss” or part of a bigger plan by Nolene is well and truly wrong. Looking at the stats England have well and truly got the wood on us. I think we have won 1 game against England since 2001 whereas they have now won 4.

The only glimmer of hope I have is if Jamaica have played their “final” against Australia and come out flat against us, otherwise we aren’t going to be able to do a thing against Fowler and watching Nweke go against Sterling is going to be some entertaining viewing.

I was curious about the NZ + Aus umpires being paired up for the two big games. I wondered if there was a thought that having umpires from the same country would be better for consistency.

Australia had the same umpiring combination for their games against South Africa and Jamaica, so I won’t be surprised if we see them again in the semi final.

That interview with Rob Wright is delightful. I‘m totally on the Jamaica train this tournament – their time has come.

What I think will be interesting in the next round of games is I don’t think that the Roses or the Sunshine Girls could’ve done much more than what they did in these games. Apart from a few lapses they both played at maybe their best for the majority of the match.
Whereas I think Aus/NZ both left a lot to be desired.

It might come down to whether ENG/JAM can back it up and go again for another full 60 minutes against what will no doubt be an improved AUS/NZ outfit.

I reckon if they had of left Nweke on, the score wouldn’t have blown out to 10. We probably would have still lost, but by about 5/6.

Sorry @nesian I normally agree with your comments but I beg to differ this time. If Taurua had been intent on winning the England game I think she would have settled on her strongest 7 and went with them instead of trying every combination under the sun in that game. There’s no way anyone would have been able to get any rhythm going doing 15 minute stints out there. I have a feeling Cardwell is going to find it pretty heavy going against the aussie defenders.

I do agree though that we are going to find out how good Jury, Fitzpatrick and Karaka really are going up against the likes of Fowler, not to mention how Nweke and Wilson fare against Sterling, who is one of my favourite players out there at the moment.

Cardwell’s turn and shoot mentality will be amazing at t’birds. – so exciting.

I still think Diamonds can win this, but I do feel like the bench doesn’t really provide the ‘change up’ required…. A Kelsey Browne or Maddy Proud in WA, with wallam at GS would’ve been handy…. If Gretel in GS isn’t working, will Koenan really provide much difference? i feel like they play very similar.

Steph Wood was awesome first the first 3 quarters, but does seem to get tight when games get tight….

@Kwkiwi It’s good to have disagreements, makes things more interesting. I would say this however. If Nolene wasn’t intent on winning then in my opinion she shouldn’t be coach. It should never be acceptable to lose a game when you are the national coach. If Foster with the All Blacks did that he would be crucified, why would it be acceptable with Silver Ferns when it’s not with the All Blacks?

I don’t think Nolene knows who her strongest 7 are, that’s why we are having an episode of bibs in the air. England have dominated us lately 4 out of 5 games. I don’t think Nolene has any answers and is grasping at straws.

Whenever Noel’s next has her trials, surely all played must attend. Kayla Johnson getting a free ride, still annoys me greatly, and she has shown nothing of use, and looks to have a injury.

                                Don’t get any of it.
Bailey’s last game was great, yet Noel’s doesn’t use her anywhere?
                                *shakes head*

As a kiwi supporter, I think we’re headed for an Aus vs Jam Final and it’s anyone’s game.

I also think Noels was playing with the aim of winning, winning is a beneficial mindset for a team – losing brings down the confidence. I don’t think Nweke stands a chance against Sterling and Wilson – she just doesn’t have the strength to dominate like Fowler…yet. But she’ll get there. I think the Wilson/TPSR is their best option getting through and keeping the ball flat. The NZ attackers just don’t seem to be working in sync.

I think England have the potential to take out Aus. I was very impressed with Imogen Allison – haven’t seen much of her, but I thought she had some very tight marking and NZ just didn’t have a reply to that. Australia just unfortunately don’t have a back up WA. Should be a close one with Aus and Eng – I say Aus by 2 though, Bueta will dominate against Mentor.
