I think the Ferns are a 10 goal side better than they were at the last CWGs and Noeline will get the most out of this team. However, I think they are missing too much firepower and will still finish 4th, although there won’t be the shame that there was last time.

I’m tipping England to pick up the bronze over New Zealand, while Australia will pip Jamaica for gold.

Call me delusional but I can see NZ medaling. Actually, let’s go for gold against Jamaica in the final 😂

Am I right that Kayla Johnson is the only player in the NZ team who’s only played one position? I’ve only seen her at WD.
In terms of combinations I find it very odd Taurua won’t run her at GD even once ?? I know she likes her tricks and tactics but it’s a very big gamble to throw her in in a finals game without any court time ?
Is there more to it then having a potential ace up her sleeve??

I think Kayla at GD is a hopeful fancy – if Noeline was serious, she would have put her at GD for the odd quarter in the pool blowouts.

I think she will start with:

            Nweke
            Selby-Rickitt, then sub in Wilson
            Crampton
            Souness
            Heffernan
            Karaka
            Jury

Nweke would’ve only played GS, Crampton WA and I have a feeling Jury has only played GK.
Oh and Souness C only perhaps?

Good point Thunder haha I’m clearly a bit fixated.
I guess it’s odd because I just don’t see Johnson as a specialist WD the same way I view the others as specialists in those positions (with the exception of souness being a WA) ?

I think NZ will medal and will have the win over England today. I’m predicting big games from Clarke, Johnson, Mentor, Souness and Jury. If those 5 can stand up for their team they’ll easily win. In the past, NZ midcourt has struggled against Clarke and Nweke has also struggled Mentor but I think Nweke has shown some really good stuff over the past few days and will definitely have a better performance compared to previous times. I think whoever wins the C position will be the team to win the game.

Defensively, it all depends on whether Jury and Karaka can shut down Harten and Housby because if they can’t Fitzpatrick isn’t an option- she doesn’t seem to play while against the roses. The WA and WD battle will also be interesting, if Johnson/Heffernan can shut down Metcalf then that’s easily one of their most influential players out.

                    May the best team win!

Any Diamonds fans think Marinkovich could rest Hadley and Wood and save them for the two do or die games?

                      Moloney/Brazil/Watson in C
                      Watson/Austin in WA
                      Austin/Bueta in GA
                      Bueta/Koenen in GS

                      Stacey has options.

Back to the Ferns, I think Souness and Heffernan will need to pick up turnover ball in the midcourt if we’re to have a chance against England. We can’t leave it up to Karaka and Jury or we’re toast.

Souness and Heffernan need to bring the same energy from that Cadbury Series game against the Mixed Team to today’s game.

                            Australia:
                            GS Bueta
                            GA Wood
                            WA Watson
                            C Moloney
                            WD Brazill
                            GD Weston
                            GK Bruce

                            Jamaica:
                            GS Fowler
                            GA Beckford
                            WA Williams
                            C Dixon-Rochester
                            WD Ward
                            GD Wilson
                            GK Sterling

What a game this promises to be!

Definitely no resting for Wood, then!

I totally agree that the Diamonds could rest Hadley and Wood if they needed to. The other players that are left can easily cover the positions needed. The only problem would come if they were desperate for a change if the Jamaican defence are completely dominating.
