After all the late nights viewing the Commonwealth Games the netball grand final will mean setting the alarm here in Melbourne!
Yikes another sleepless night! Not planning too much for Monday! Looking forward to the matches!
Umpires for the medal matches:
Bronze – NZ v ENG:
Joshua Bowring & Bronwen Adams (Res: Tara Warner)Gold – JAM v AUS:
Gareth Fowler & Angela Armstrong-Lush (Res: Gary Burgess)These are the same umpires as for the group matches between these teams on Thursday.
I wonder if Burgess is under an injury cloud? But then if he was, there would be many other options for reserve.
They seem to be going to a lot of trouble to keep umpires together in the represented countries.
Possibly an unpopular opinion but I don’t mind that approach with the umpires. I think it was more frustrating in past tournaments when the umpires on court seemed to have very different styles & interpretations of the rules. But I think they could have taken a bit more care with rotating the umpires around for pool matches. Maybe last night would have gone a bit smoother if the Fowler/Armstrong-Lush combination had umpired one of the England games together prior. (I don’t think they did, anyway; please correct me if I’m wrong.)
I hope Australia are prepared to adjust if they pick up more penalties in the first quarter than the last game against Jamaica. I won’t be surprised if the umpires look to set the tone early with the Bruce/Fowler battle.
No offence but the whole umpiring has been dreadful this CWG. Last nights eng v aus was the worst.
One umpire was definitely interested in telling anyone who was in earshot that he was the boss.
@Peter C – I haven’t seen one of the games. Was that in response to players questioning calls because if it was they need to learn to zip their mouths. Only the Captains are allowed to approach umpires so not surprised.

GK MentorHopefully the Ferns can take some inspiration from the White Ferns who stunned England by 8 wickets for bronze – just their third win in 22 games against the English.
If we get a good start I’ll keep watching. The first 15 minutes seems to be indicative of our how we fare at the moment.
