Extremely disappointed to see Proud dropped. I really don’t understand why SM won’t give her a proper chance.
Agree. And given Watson won’t be playing in the England series, you’d think SM would want to give Proud some extra minutes.
Moloney played well in the CWG, but Taurua has picked that game plan a part and the combination is not effective against NZ.

Starting line up prediction:
Koenen
Wood
Watson
Moloney
Price
Weston
BruceI hope Austin and Garbin get decent game time though
I think Noeline played a master stroke with Peta Toeava…..adding her to the squad for the first two games. I think this was actually more initially intended to help Grace settle against Aus….Noeline knows that developing Grace is the best chance of defending gold at WNC. Noeline referenced Peta’s connection with grace several times prior to and after the first two games. I think Peta actually performed even better than expected, and has probably cemented her place (unless gordon or Poi have the series of their lives).
I guess my point is, rather than developing depth in the WA position, I feel like the whole point of have 4 different Wa’s across this series was more about who feeds Grace the best.
Another observation/prediction. Bringing Weston might help with experience, but I personally don’t think Weston matches up on Ekanasio well, and her combo with Bruce hasn’t always worked for me…..so as a kiwi fan i’m quite happy with that change up.
If anything, i’d be putting Weston at WD to get her long reach over the feed…Parmenter and Price both put great physical pressure on the catch, but i don’t think either have an effective hands over game like Brazil, Simpson and Ingles. Its like the contest so hard on the pass, that they don’t have time to set up the 3 feet mark. This was observed by Adine Wilson on the Skytv show after game 2 – they need to concede some passes in order to set up better pressure on the next.
Agree with that re: WD. This feedback was given to Brazill around picking and choosing her time to go for an intercept/risk the overrun or to stick on her player.
Gotta say, Simpson wasn’t great at this at international level.
From a Ferns starting line up perspective, really interested to see if Taurua gives Souness the start in the middle and pairs her with Gordon, with Heffernan at WD or rewards Kate for Game 2 and gives her the starting C bib.
I’m reading Poi is a WA option, which we really haven’t seen from her since she played for the Magpies back in 2019.
Going into ANZP next year it will be interesting where the coaches play tbe midcourters. I think Gordon at WA is her best position, and C for Heffernan only strengthens her WD and C credentials for the Ferns. Kimi playing WA wouldn’t be a bad thing with Laura Malcolm running C.
I think if Poi was to be WA, then Maia will prob be GS. Kimi knows how to feed the Maia/meels combo. Like she did so well at the last con cup
Garbin starting! Could be just what Aus needs.
Test 3:
AUS:
GS Garbin
GA Wood
WA Watson
C Moloney
WD Price
GD Weston
GK BruceNZ:
GS Nweke
GA Ekenasio
WA Gordon
C Souness
WD Heffernan
GD Karaka
GK JuryThat Gordon/Price battle is going to be a good one. Both are as bad as eacH other at times but at least Maddy does it with a smile 😊
No Temu on the bench??
