What a wholesome performance from the Ferns! Love how the competition for positions internally is growing… this is the most depth we’ve seen in NZ for a while.

The commentators keep saying the ferns need to only win 2 to retain the cup- is that true? Is it not down to goal difference at that stage?

Nope 2 wins retains the cup

Great match to watch, Ferns playing with some flare and agree Pheonix is back in form!!

Ill eat my hat with Toeava. Played great did get a little tired but overall lovely play.

Good to see Johnson on at GD and played well.

Not sure where the answer in the Aussie shooting circle is gonna come from?

Have they changed the rules? It certainly used to be goal difference. I remember 2015 when defending champs Australia grimly held on by a couple of goals.

From everything ive read and heard its been 2 win and SF retain the cup. Maybe like the Bledisloe and wins not differential matter?

Australia blown away by New Zealand’s hot start as Diamonds defeated in Constellation Cup opener

What a game by the ferns. Really asserted themselves across the whole court. Good to see Eke back and in form. Karaka too. Heffernan took Watson out of the game and Toeva had it on a string for 50 minutes.

Diamonds hopefully learn a lot from this. I just don’t think the Koenan/Wood combo is it for us. They’ve played together for years now and I just don’t think it’s ever going to be enough at an international level. Time to start Garbin or Wallam and see what can happen. Austin was good. Watson was quiet and Maloney just doesn’t cut it at international level as a C either.
Price whom I don’t normally rate was great for Australia and had good vision in the circle.

I just don’t see Taurua ever being out coached so I think NZ fans should be very excited for what’s to come for the ferns. Jury is still out on SM.

The Diamonds defence just had no answers for the Ferns attack end- who were just on fire.

It was disappointing that Garbin was put on so late (I was willing it to happen in the second quarter). She is very strong there and it was clear the attack end needed more of a holding target.

I’m not usually a fan of Price but I thought she was very good in C. Especially in her drives in the attack end.

I think this series is going to be a lot closer than some people predicted.

What…so as soon as the Ferns win the Con Cup the rules suddenly change? Seems strange. It has always been most wins. If teams win 2 each then goal difference calculated to establish a winner. It’s not like the Bledisloe!!!

I’m hoping Toeava starts in the next game. We need to see if she can back this up. At the same time, I know it’s important to get players out on court.
Let’s remember, as good as Parmenter is, this was her debut. I have a feeling she’s going to really come out firing in the next test.

Price was good! I don’t normally rate her, but she made a difference. However her height may be needed in WD. I do feel the Diamonds need Proud at C (or WA with Watson at C). They have too many defensive Cs. They need a natural attacking C, to help out a struggling shooting circle.
