Absolutely parmy needs to be given way more minutes, particularly in the next game I think. Let her grow and guide her through.
She wasn’t her usual impactful self but I still thought she was solid and showed moments of big potential given the occasion for her. After Braz she’s gotta be the next best WD specialist in the country so now is a great opportunity to give her experience.
Great game. Ferns surprised me at how well they played. Nweke and Toeva must be a shoe in for the World Cup playing like that if they can keep it up. Wilson will be very much a back up GS from now on in. The Diamonds missed Tippett and Weston big time. Especially Tippett. They need to try Dwyer and Garbin who are less likely to be blocked by Jury due their shooting style and height. I think you still need Wood in there as her long range shooting mixes it up.
Interesting to reflect on NZ having left the ssn and worries about how they would go. Just shows how crucial it is having a dominant, post up shooter. Which Nweke provides now. The Ferns looked good in all areas of the court. Will be interesting to see if they have the consistency to post good performances throughout this series or whether Taurua is using the series to try out multiple combinations.
Watching the game again. Keria Austin had her shot tipped/blocked 3 times by Jury, Austin’s shot is quite and low release, if Jury gets set before Austin does, then she struggles.
It still baffles me at this level that shooters struggle to shoot over a defender.
Defenders train just as hard too 🤷♂️
Oh and Ekenasio is sooo important as captain, even if she didn’t play to her usual high standard (missed tidder under the goal, dropped pass). Just having on court is so calming to the players.
Totally agree @mcleod, can see the difference from her calming influence, love her interviews too.
Love Jurys lean over, you’d be surprised how many shooters a lean puts off, much more than a jump. Shooters know basically a lot of defenders jump the ball before 3 seconds is up, but a lean makes it much clearer how long they’re holding the ball for. Loved that one of Jury’s when she stretched with her right and then came up higher and over with her left to get Austin.
I think with NZ the next target they need to look at is a GA thatll need to fill Meels shoes when she decides to retire. Not too sure where thay will come from yet. Because the rest of the team are quite young and can keep moving through together.
Sunday can’t come quick enough for to see how Aussie can respond and if NZ can deliver again.
Congratulations to @SilverFernsNZ captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio on notching up 50 Tests!
Ekenasio made her debut against the Australian Diamonds in 2014.

@Maryann she is probably the only one I can see atm. Yep she needs to get the fitness up first. She would work well with Nweke with the feed, just maybe needs to work on the shooting volume and making her a threat on shot to draw the double team off the shooter.
With Dunn saying she wants to play more GA I see that turning into say a Wilson where it doesn’t really work.
They need a more pure GA not a converted GS.
What about the cat among the pigeons and say Rahni Samason
Well a spot had opened up at tactix for a shooter, so who knows.
Shed still be under a Vixens contract? Would be worth more than a replacement to Glens contract? Idk wizhful thinking, but i do get the whole if NA dont do right by her then NZ could sweep in like before… Cough..Ekenasio..cough lol
But then im ignorant to how Beko League goalers are like too, havent watched any of that.
The way I remember Ameliaranne (Wells) was she was tired of sitting on the Firebirds bench and so she emailed the Pulse enquiring about playing for them. Lots of netballers with mixed NZ Australian heritage. It sure has worked well for her and she is firmly embedded in NZ and exploring her NZ heritage.
