Pretty embarrassing error by the umpire.
Devastating for Uganda as well, just because the umpire made a really bad error.
well that was a F’Up and a half by the ref at the end of the Unganda/England game
also showed the young age of England team with their reaction after it was corrected – a clap and a little cheer would’ve been sufficient not jumping up and down yelling (there’s a time and a place – and that’s not in the faces of a team that had been awarded the win – and then had it taken away)
No idea what happened there. Why wasn’t it originally given as a goal? A bit of a shocker because it robbed England of the initial excitement, then it robbed Uganda of the win they thought they had.
Yes, devastating for Uganda but getting the win that way wouldn’t be great for them either.
That is a technical error by the umpire so not a line call or only calling what they see. Then to be so stubborn not to change it which meant the officials bench had to get involved.
Oh, I think I get it now. Paige Reed had a shot at goal for a 6 pointer to win the game for England right on full time. She sank it but I think one of the umpires must have ruled that it didn’t go through the ring in time, totally forgetting that it was a penalty shot so that didn’t matter. They said that Uganda won, but then after they celebrated, the umpires realised the mistake and changed the decision. Uganda wasn’t happy as you can understand.
But seriously, in that last Q, Paige Reed had 6 attempts at goal, and swished every one from a variety of distances, scoring all 17 England points on her own.
I agree Nate, the dancing and stuff has been great but once the game actually starts it’s a little bland. Maybe it’s because the players are less high-profile in most of the teams? Then again Kiera Austin and Maia Wilson weren’t exactly household names when they played.
What happened at the end just there? Was it a delay call or something? Dwyer was just trying to pass no?
Another controversial finish. Australia grimly holding on against a fast-finishing NZ and I assume they were penalised for wasting time (“Use it or lose it”). Then it was advanced. So the kiwis were given a chance to win it but missed.
I think it was a use it or lose it, and then threw the ball away @StatsNerd21 … the refs have been the cause of quite a bit’ve confusion in a few games today…
Ah thank you Kerryn and Ian… that’s about the first time I’ve heard ‘use it’ today! Hopefully the umpires have a chat with the officials before the games tomorrow to get some things in order.
