Unless Glasgow or ATN are moving, I’d expect them to be retained… so idk where Wallam would fit.
Re Vixens’ Friday announcement – no, it’s not a new signing ….
….The only thing I can think of given that is that has to be some-one doesn’t RE-SIGN …and maybe it’ll be one of Vixens’ GKs going to Lightning or Giants given there’s GK openings there. Or maybe Kate back to Swifts given they need a WD?
Waiting waiting waiting…..
Would love Kate Eddy back to the Swifts provides cover at GD and WD. Fraser could play WA. getting carried away again. More likely Dehaney. We shall see again, just waiting to see if Swifts announce any more departures. Housby post in her instagram story with Nat had the line ‘when will this horror end’. Is she alluding to more leaving
The Firebirds on their Twitter say they have signed someone that shined this year.
I guess that could be someone from Sunshine Coast or a sunshine girl…
Dehaney is a sunshine girl and is great mates with Romelda. With Hinchliffe and Jenner injured they need defenders. Yes Ellis is there but maybe there is substance to the rumours that she is on the move?
As a Vixens fan I’d be disappointed to see Dehaney go. For years I’ve wondered why they signed her. But this year she was great. Stronger than Mannix. Mannix is older and injury prone. But if Vixens are going back to their core Victorian values then I suppose they’d retain Mannix.
They need to keep Eddy IMO due to her versatility. Weston and Eddy are both quite rare in that they can play all 3 defensive positions well. On the basis (and this is a presumption) that the Vixens midcourt is Watson, Moloney, Mundy and Smith then Eddy will mainly play in the circle. Eddy looked slower this year but she broke her foot in the 2020 GF and ended up having surgery. WD is probably her 3rd position as well. Keep in mind whilst Smith is transitioning to the midcourt she can play GD very well and would match up very well against players like Horjus or ATN.
Smith posted on Instagram the other day saying she missed her mate alongside a photo of Dehaney. Does that mean anything other than Dehaney is back in Jamaica? Who knows. Dehaney wrote she would be back soon….
So really I have no idea what is going on except I have hope Vixens have finally realised they can’t have two specialist GKs in a team of 10. A tough decision to be made. They know they need to keep Mundy not only for the future but so they can transition Watson back as slow as needed.
I know Mannix is much loved by the club but I really think the Vixens would be crazy to let Dehaney go. She’s been McKinnis’ project since Day 1. They’ve put so many resources into her and she’s finally become a world beater, it would be a shame for the club to not be rewarded. Eddy was not in form last season but I don’t think the Vixens can afford to lose her going forward. For me the defensive future of the club is Dehaney/Eddy/Smith.
I think the Swifts might struggle to lure over Sligar given she will probably get a Giants contract next year. Miller would give their squad more balance but Sligar is better and more well-rounded, plus seems to very much be in favour. If so then either Burgess or O’Shannassy would be good options. I would like to see Turner develop her WD game more, so a backline of O’Shannassy/Klau/Turner could be quite exciting. Fraser has made amazing progress but I would like to see more of her in C and WA going forward.
The Turner at WD has been tried and she isn’t effective. She’s the type of defender that wins ball from the run player into the circle. When she is restricted at WD she can’t play with her natural instincts.
Agree @al_ex, if one of the GKs needs to go, the logical decision would be Mannix. Dehaney was great last year and it would be a shame to put so much time in developing her only to let another club reap the rewards.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Burgess at the Swifts. I also agree, Fraser should be at C/WA going forward. A good WD when needed bu I think they should get someone to cover that position properly.
Price re-signed with Giants until 2023. Really thought a coaching change could have done her some good but I guess she’s happy there.
Looks like there is a spot at TBirds for Orr or Williams now.
Sad to see Van Der Merwe go because I could definitely see how impactful she was off the court. In saying that though, it makes me hopeful that Williams could be promoted to a contract player… I do feel for Orr, hasn’t really had much of a chance since her return from Magpies but also has a lot of potential.
I wonder if it was Van der Merwe’s decision or the tbirds because it’s surprising I thought she was a good fit for the club. Hopefully Williams or Orr will get a spot, Williams is probably more likely especially given she played WD for most of the SA premier league
I think the statement points to it being the club’s decision.
I wonder if Shadine VDM will be picked up by the Swifts. They need a WD.
I swear, as of last night till today, I’ve seen at least 10 people say Bayman-Francis is heading home ?
Would be a good pick up for the Swifts but I think they’re probably more likely to promote a TP. Also, I think having Potgieter in Adelaide made things easier as well.
