surely this must be the most amount of changes since the inaugural season?
has thrown up a few surprises so far, both leaving, and where they’ve signed eg Garbin – not a surprise she moved – but where she went has been
and I think possibly still a few more to go??
the number of 2 season contracts will make next off season a little boring – but has the potential for some to miss out on spots? or will we see some contract being broken?? (that could get juicy!!!)
apologies, I’m procrastinating doing work, and what better place to do so ๐
Dehaney and Smith both leaving Vixens surprised me somewhat as they would have been players I would have kept. If Smith is not announced by the Swifts tonight will be very surprised. Dehaney Sunshine Coast maybe. Moore where will she end up, feel she is a GD
I know it must have been a tough decision but I would have kept Dehaney over Mannix. I think they made the wrong decision here, Mannix has been fighting injuries for a few seasons but even during periods of good health, her performance isn’t consistent. I also would’ve done everything to keep Smith around but I understand why she’s leaving.
Smith was offered a contract. Wants to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Itโs pretty clear to everyone that Vixens rate Eddy ahead of her. With Mundy coming through as well Moloney can drop to WD.
Am I alone in not really rating Eddy? She played her best netball at the swifts and since her injury just has not come back this season the same.
Yep, Tully assumed she got offered a contract, just a shame Vixens couldn’t give her the court time she needs.
With Eddy, I think last season was definitely the poorest so far but I attribute that to a few factors including being injured on/off but also the fact that her role wasn’t quite that defined. I get why Vixens are holding on to her.
I agree, I donโt think Eddy had a great 2021. But given the discrepancy in court time at WD between her Smith the reference of McKinnis was pretty clear.
To be fair to Eddy she did break her foot in the 2020 GF and then had surgery. Will be more interested to see how she goes in 2022. Definitely better in the circle. I thought Eddy was great in 2020.
I hope they use Eddy more in the circle in 2022. I hope that Mundy – Watson run C – WA with Moloney in WD. I also hope they sign Sharni Lambden as the 10th player. In case you donโt know who she is she was the standout WD (can also play GD and C) in the age group between Eddy and Smith. Was on track for a SSN contract as a Magpies TP the year they win ANL which Lambden was brilliant in. Was making the Aussie centre of excellence dev squads and then injury hit with a full shoulder reco. Fit now and was playing very well in VNL before that got cancelled. Just as good as Smith. Just needs a chance but like Samason. Same age actually.
I remember seeing Lambden play when she was in the 17s Vic team and thought she was an absolute star. Hopefully she can make her way back for an opportunity but I think Vixens will go for a true circle defender for their last spot.
I think they will too Sarah. But I wish theyโd go Lambden and use Eddy in the circle. Then have Coffey and Allan as TPs.
In the meantime, at least youโll get to see more of Allie on court!
Terrific signing by Swifts, they have needed WD. For her she will get Court time as I feel she will be the WD in the starting 7, Interesting though only year contract, guess it works for both. Now looking to see who their Final signing will be. 3rd shooter will be important for the. available are Bassett, Gooden, Stanton, Glasgow, Wallam and even Borger.
One year. Very interesting. Didnโt know that part. Leaves things open to go home to either Victorian team.
Makes sense if she doesnโt settle. Looking at the Vixens they are not announcing the length of their contracts for their players. Hopefully there will not be further lockdowns so she can enjoy Sydney
Apart from her injuries, Eddy is at her best self when she plays GD. WD is just not for her even though she can play there. I remember when the Baby Ferns and Diamonds toured Fiji in preparation for the Netball World Youth Cup, Eddy literally shut down Metuarau and Hume, months later she did the same on her debut for the Swifts when she caused havoc against Tippett. WD is just not for her, she’s meant for the defensive circle…
